One social motivation for US Imperialism is that we could be improving the lives of "ignorant peoples". America is a republic and if we were to conquer more people we could help improve their lives while they improve ours. Them improving our lives would be economic. We can sell our goods and trade with more people which would allow commerce to spread. Politically, the more land we conquer and the bigger the empire we build the better. We can then be a world power that other nations wouldn't be able to compare with.

Imperialism would allow the US to spread goods further and make more money for America.
Social: Alfred says at the end of the quote that "ignorant peoples will know that the voice of liberty is speaking, at last... that civilization is dawning, at last, for them." This led them to be inspired to get more and expand their empire.

Soc: One social motivation for Imperialism would be that the US is going to be actively expanding and taking over people's lives.

In this quote by Alfred Beveridge from 1898, the economic, social, and political roots of American Imperialism are displayed. A political root for imperialism is described in the words "'the flag of liberty will circle the globe and the highway of the ocean - carrying trade to all mankind - will be guarded by the guns of the republic." This part of the quote explains how America would conquer territories around the world, in which those territories would be a part of America and become protected by America's government military. Additionally, an economic root of imperialism is represented in the words "'Therefore, we must find new markets for our produce, new capital for our labor...'" This part of the quote represents how America was making more money than it could spend, so it needed to find new territory on which it could spend its money. Finally, a part of the quote that represents the social roots of imperialism are the words "'...ignorant peoples will know that the voice of liberty is speaking, at last, for them...'" These words explain that when America conquers parts of the world, these foreign people from those territories will become citizens of the United States, and be able to have rights under the Constitution.
