So many different species of finch evolve from a common ancestor because of their habitat they had to get used to. Once a certain breed of finches/birds move into other habitats they end up adapting themselves to that area and reproduce other finches/birds that can adapt as well. For example, the finches from the drought with bigger peaks were able to survive the drought during that year. The reason for this was because they were able to eat large seeds because of their beak traits, on the other hand, smaller beaks didn't make it through. - xime

Many different species of finches had evolved from a common ancestor. Because each of the common ancestors had moved to a different island and had adaptions along with natural selection to the island they moved to. To determine what traits could help the finches survive the island. Then later being able to make their offspring survive on that same island as well. I think this is how so many different species of finches had evolved from a common ancestor.

As animals and humans we don't automatically change because we are forced to. We all go as a natural selection based on the habitat or area we live in. For example, If I were to move somewhere in a suburb area, I will feel empty and lonely without the city's noisiness. With condolences animals feel and experience similar things as us humans as well. From one ancestor, not all birds want to be in the same habitat or eat the same food every once in a while. The adaptation these finches had to go through was in neutral selection. The drought change their diet, style of living, and even production. Many places had similar experiences with drought as well, some dry, some are very humid, and some perfectly normal for medium shaped finches to produce. In conclusion, the finches evolved more and more based on the neutral resources they have been through. Not by the style of choice but the style they live through.

So many finches evolved from one common ancestor because of natural selection. Overtimes the different islands changed having droughts and having different food sources. The finches that were best suited to live on these changing islands would carry on the traits that helped them survive making a new species of finch. Other finches would do this until there were many different types of finches.

Finches have evolved into multiple species from a single ancestor. Because each of the common ancestors migrated to a different island and adapted to that island by natural selection, their descendants were also able to remain on the same island. This, I assume, is how a single ancestor gave rise to so many different finch species.
