From the way the Hound injects its victims with lethal amounts of drugs to how its able to track down its victims so quickly using it's sensors shows how effecient in killing it can be, and is from what we see later on in the text. Bradbury shows us how technology can be misused if we do not have postive intentsions.

What for?” -95

Bradbury create this character to show readers the negative impacts of technology and media can have on people. Mildred being a victim of technology addiction does not care neither about her surrounding nor her relationship with Montag. No matter how desperate Montag is trying to make Mildred committee to reading, she is still unwilling to listen to her husband’s suggestion. It is also understandable because she is used to a happy society and does not want to disobey it. This characters therefore concretely portrays how influential technology can be in a negative way because people interprets books the same way and are unaware of the disasters.

Bradbury created this character of a unique personality in the story to show a drastic contrast between the behaviors of the minorities and majorities in the story, therefore reflecting how badly influenced people can be by the politics of their world. Bradbury made the scene a significant turning point for Montag because he finally accepted his feelings and decided to do something about the corrupted society.

Clarisse who is a friendly and out-going character , represents life and nature . This is supported by, “I sometimes think drivers don’t know what grass is, or flowers, because they never see them slowly.” This shows that Clarisse paid attention to every single thing about nature with interest , which is not a common thing people would do in the society . Furthermore , she has inspired Montag with nature too . Montag thinks about time with her together with weather and the surroundings . To add to that , nature has also helped Montag at the end of the text , the part when Montag was escaping from the city , he “crosses the river which divides the city from the country, the mechanical from natural” Hence , Clarisse is the one who has introduced nature to Montag and has impacted his life .

With all 4 walls, she could just spend all her time engrossed in watching television and not give a care about anything else in the world. She too doesn't care about montag here as she is selfish about her own needs and doesn't care about her husband who is fulfilling her needs. She is a slave to technology just like the rest of society. This is unlike her husband who thinks about society.

From the way Beatty was throwing quotes after quotes at montag, shows how manipulative Beatty can be, in an attempt to sway Montag's determination of saving the humanity. This also shows that Beatty has read many books throughout his life and is very knowledgeable, and may have even used to be just like Montag, determined to change the society. However, Beatty is now portrayed in a very villainous way which shows that if Montag had listened to Beatty, he might become just like him, completely gave up on humanity and prefers to burn down books and all things that provides knowledge.

Mildred is a pitiful character in the text, who makes use of technology to escape reality and to avoid confrontation of her own emotions. Mildred also represents how some people distract their own problems with the use of technology.

'how long do you figure before we save up and get the fourth wall torn out and a fourth wall put in? it's only two thousand dollars'

'sleeping tablets which earlier today had been filled with thirty capsules and which now lay uncapped and empty in the light of the tiny flare.'

Bradbury shows Mildred's addiction to technology through the way Mildred was willing to sacrifice a few things just to get a fourth parlor walls. From the way Mildred almost died, from a presumably suicide attempt, it shows that Mildred may be terribly unhappy in life. Yet, she is unaware of her own feelings and emotions. This may be due to the constant distraction of technology, such as the parlor walls, to keep Mildred away from confronting her own unhappiness and problems. Hence, this makes Mildred a very pitiful character as she's living her life normally, without knowing fully her own sorrow.

Montag is a character who changes throughout the novel as someone who is seeking for meaning in his life. He tries looking for this through books which is the most illegal of commodities in his society.

' When he was done he looked down upon some twenty books lying at his wife's feet. '

Bradbury creates montag to be the one who explores the meaning of life to show the contrast and oppression present in the novel. Compared to montag, everyone else, excluding faber and granger's group of intellectuals, were oppressed and were kept under control of the government through technology. Montag shows how he discovers injustice and escapes the society to find another group of like-minded people and they try to rebuild society where they will recreate books and make sure that everyone has access to them. Therefore, Bradbury makes montag a very significant character in the novel because he signifies the journey to revolution in the novel.

Mildred is a character whose only attachment to the society is the 'family' she has and has a very shallow and materialistic mindset towards her life. She does not believe in relationships and hence, we see the strain in relationship between her and montag.

' Mildred came down the steps, running, one suitcase held with a dream-like clenching rigidity in her first, as a beetle-taxi hissed to the kerb. '

We see how she betrays montag in the end and all she cared at that point of time was that she lost her only source of comfort and escapism, which was the televisions. It shows the heavy reliance Mildred has on technology in the society. She is completely immersed in an electronic world and grows more distant and incompatible with montag as time goes by. She is unable to think rationally and relieves her stress by immersing into the world of media and technology. Therefore, we can see how Mildred is a character that is unable to comprehend her own thoughts and feelings and eventually succumbs fully to the technology in the society after she leaves montag.

Not with kerosene and a match, but a piecework, with a flame thrower. Your house, your clean-up."

Bradbury symbolises Beatty this way as Beatty represents what a model citizen would be like in that society, a fireman who detest books and knowledge and burns them down. Beatty acts as an rival to Montag in the text and was an huge obstacle Montag had to face in order to achieve what he wanted, knowledge and books and in the midst of that process, Montag was cornered by Beatty and was forced to burn the one thing he cherished which were the books and his house in the process which can really shows us how cruel Beatty is in the text.

Granger is very wise character in the book as he acts as an teacher and a guide for Montag as her entered a new perspective of what life is.

This can be seen in, " We're used to that. We all made the right kind of mistakes or we wouldn't be here."

This shows us how Granger actually went through what Montag did and so when Montag first felt like he wasn't a part of them, he comforted Montag by sharing part of his life experience and how they were similar. This creates a bond between the and gives Granger a teacher figure vibe in Montag's perspective as finally someone in the world can finally understand how he feels from the restless and controlled society that he once lived in. This also shows us that Granger is one of the many professors who studied in society which can represent wisdom and knowledge which is what the society finds an anomaly and is part of the reason why Granger left that society. (Hence we can see that wisdom is meant to be treasured and not just be thrown away like what the society did.) (☞ﾟ∀ﾟ)☞

In that moment, Montage should have had the power with him having the flamethrower, and yet Beatty still had the 'audacity' to talk back to monatg with such a tone, further more to tell him to carry on as if he still had the power in the position. As if he did not care for what montag had to say, letting Montag speak for the sake of letting out with it having no affect overall, looking down on montag with his monologue being inevitably useless.

This can be seen in, “...We're going to build a mirror factory first and put out nothing but mirrors for the next year and take a long look in them." This shows how Bradbury made Granger a character which only appeared at the end of the book but created a large impact on Montag. Granger is the leader of the “Book People,” the group of hobo intellectuals Montag finds in the country. When Montag met them, Granger was mostly the one leading the conversation and he shared that once the world “ends” he wants to rebuild the whole society and do everything that the society was once against. This shows how powerful his character is because he is confident in the human spirit and committed to preserving literature.
