In the year 1810, Mexico had fought for their independence from Spain, in which they came out victorious. Once Mexico was independent from Spain, Mexico gained lots of land, including the colony of Texas, which Mexico had allowed Americans to settle in this land. This map is important, as it shows all the land that belongs to Mexico, after they gained their independence from Spain. This land included a majority of the future West United States that we see today, and the land will later be obtained for a large sum of money for the United States.

After being independent for quite some time, Texas started suffering economically, due to lots of war debt piling up. In response to this, Texas turned to the United States to become a state, in which of course the Unite States accepted them with open arms due to their past history when Texas was still under Mexican control. Texas officially joined as the 28th state of the United States.
