Shawn Johnson is an olympic gold medalist on beam. she began gymnastics at the age of 3 and retired due to knee surgery complications at the age of 20. At the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics she won 4 gold medals and 3 silver medals for the women's all-around floor exercise. Johnson was named gold medalist for beam scoring 16.225 points. In 2010 she tore her ACL, which is a major knee ligament while skiing so she had to get reconstructive knee surgery. 4 months later she announced she would begin training for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She ended up backing out in June 2012 due to her injuries. She had ended up tearing her ACL and MCL in her left knee. Johnson said her knee would not be able to sustain her training for the olympics. This is my favorite story because it shows that she tried to push through her injuries and she worked her butt of to where she was at the young age of 16.

He is famous for running and competing in the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Olympics. My favorite olympic moment is when he was running then he put his finger towards his mouth and showed people to shhh. Then they said when everyone got quiet, HE WOULD RUN LIGHTNING FAST. It was a miracle. Then he won the athletic game (aka, running), He has 6 gold medals.

In 1912 jim Thorpe competed in the StockHolm Olympics. At this time he was known for his amazing athleticism in his three sports which were baseball, basketball, and football. But he didn't compete in any three of those sports when he was in the olympics instead he competed in track and field. He walked away with two gold metals and won first in 8 out of his 15 competitions. Another thing that was amazing about Thorpe is that he had very little money and actually the shoes he wore to win the olympics he actually found in the dumpster before the he competed sitting in a dumpster outside of his hotel. The reason that this is my favorite olympic moment of all time is because it just shows that it doesn't matter how much money you have you can do anything you want and do good at it. Just because you don't have the nicest thing as the person next to you doesn't mean that they are any better or that they can do more things then you can.

As well as the 5,000 meter, two of his strongest races But while running the 10,000 meter. At about the 5,000 meter mark Mo fell and went behind about 10 places.But that did not stop him.He push to his limits gain some ground and ended with a gold medal for Great Britain. During the 1988 South Korea Olympics Boat Racing Event, Lawrence Lemieux, a Canadian Sailor, noticed a capsized competitors boat. Lawrence DISQUALIFIED himself, abandoned his boat, and swam to save the drowning sailor. Lawrence didn't win the gold, obviously, but he did get a honorary medal for his heroic act. This is my favorite Olympic story because he disqualified himself and went to save a drowning competitor out of pure sportsmanship.

Derek Redmond was a british runner whose specialty was in the 400 meter, competed in the 1992 Barcelona summer olympics. While he was competing he tore his hamstring halfway through a semi final race. With Derek’s determination to complete the race, he never stopped running even through all the horrifying pain. But the moment that was so heart touching followed next, When Derek’s father jumped the over the railing from the stands and reached his son to help guide him complete his dream of crossing an olympic finish line. Once they were approaching the finish line, the runner’s father released him and Derek finished the race with pride. Why this is my favorite Olympic moment is because, it was very inspiring with his drive to accomplish something he had been dreaming about for a long time. Even though he didn’t win, he accomplished something many people couldn't of. He powered through all the pain with the help of his dad. Family is everything, and you should always help each other and accomplish together.

Abebe bikila was a Ethiopian double marathon champion runner who ran the Rome 1960 mens marathon barefoot and still manage to win first place. The reason for him running barefoot is because Adidas the shoes sponsor for the 1960 Olympics only had a few pairs of shoes left, Abebe ended up with a pair that didn't fit comfortable so he decided to run barefoot. This is my favorite Olympic moment because you never see anyone especially in the Olympics to run barefoot and still end up winning gold.

Ayden Paul-1960 Jesse Owens was a great pole vaulter that went to the Olympics in germany to compete for the gold metal and when he got there he did very bad in the qualifying part and only had one try left to qualify for the Olympics when hitler was watching him because he was a african american and hitler thought that anyone that did not look like a german could not win. But hitlers pole vaulter came over and told him that all he had to do to win was to calm down. So he did and he beat the german pole vaulter and they stayed friends

James was the first American to win a gold medal at the olympics. This took place in Paris and it was also 1894 at the time so you can imagine the rules were a bit different. Like the rule you can only hop on one foot once is the rule we have today; however back then you were able to hop on one foot twice, which is exactly what James did to win gold. James won gold in the triple jump! I would say this is my favorite moment in Olympic history because it really sets a standard for our country and who we want to be! This is why I chose James Brendan Connolly as my favorite olympic moment!

Jim Thorpe was a olympic medalist in the 1912 Olympics decathlon and pentathlon. The pentathlon was consisted of long jump, javelin throw, 200-meter dash, discus throw and 1500-meter run and the decathlon differed just slightly from the pentathlons events. Jim Thorpe Medaled in 4 of the 5 events of the pentathlon and he placed in the top 4 for all ten events of the decathlon. But in 1913 the International Olympic Commission found out that Jim had played professional baseball, and at the time you had to be and amateur to participate in the Olympics. So Jim was stripped of his medals. Later his medals were reinstated, but it was after his death. I chose Jim Thorpe because even though he had been stripped of his medals and titles from the Olympics he still kept going and went to play baseball with the New York Giants. So he did not give up or quit even after his medals were stripped.

Not only did she compete, but she won bronze, and dedicated her medal to her late mother. Derek Redmond was running in a 400m semifinal in the 1994 Barcelona Olympic Games. He had the fastest time in his heat and he looked to go to the finals. But during his semifinal race he was looking strong as he had suddenly pulled up behind the others. Derek tore his hamstring around the middle of the race and that took away a potential medal for him. But Derek wasn't ready to finish his race just yet. With the help of his father, Derek managed to limp to the finish line and finish the race that he had started. This is my favorite olympic event because he was so inspired to finish the race and he also inspired others to never give up.

Feyisa Lilsa is an Olympic marathon runner for Ethiopia, and is a silver medalist. After he crossed the finish line at the men's marathon run, he crossed his arms. He crossed his arms in protest of Oromia. By crossing his arms risked his career and life just to protest what the Ethiopian government is doing to the Oromian people in northeastern Africa. The protest shows lights on the killings, maimings, arbitrary detentions, profiling, enforced disappearances and economic injustices perpetrated by the Ethiopian government against the Oromo nation. After the protest Feyisa has yet to return to Ethiopia. This is my favorite Olympic moment because he used his fame for something good, to show wrongdoing and to shed light on a problem. He also took a great risk to do this.

The 1992 Dream was the first Olympic Basketball team consisting of NBA players. The Dream Team won gold in 1992 at the Olympic Games in Barcelona. The Dream Team ended up winning the Gold and going undefeated. The players were Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson and Scottie Pippen. This is my favorite Olympic moment because I love to play and watch the game of Basketball and see the teams develop.

A favorite for the medals podium, Redmond refused to give up and rose to finish the race despite his intense pain. But the most memorable moment came next, when the runner's father leapt over the railing from the stands and helped his son complete the race. Step for the finish line and with the crowed cheering them on,he let go of derek, so his son let him go to let him cross the finish himself.

It's the 1988 Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, during the preliminary rounds leading to the medal rounds, Greg starts his dive but he hits his head on the springboard. He finished the dive but with a gash in his head that needed stitches. The next day he climbed up to the board for the medal rounds where he won a gold medal. It’s my favorite moment because it shows to never give up your dream.

R.A Dickey was a starting pitcher at the university of Tennessee and won Bronze in 1996 in Atlanta. He wen 1-0 with a 2.15 ERA as team USA's Ace in the 1996 world cup classic but walked 4 in 14 1/3 IP. After they drafted Dickey in the first round of the 1996 amateur Draft , the Texas Rangers' medical staff discovered that he was missing a crucial tendon in his throwing elbow, and that it was unexplainable that he could pitch at any level with such a condition. He began throwing a knuckleball after that. At age 40 he started game 4 of the ALCS against Kansas City Royals. He was rocked after giving up 5 runs in 1 2/3 IP.

This event happened when he was age 31. The place the event happened was at the Rio Olympics 2016. This is my favorite Olympic moment because he won 5 gold medals and, a silver as an American swimmer. He received 22 gold medals when he destroyed the field by two seconds. Overall, he got 23 Olympic titles and 28 medals. In addition this was my favorite Olympic event in my opinion.
