Literature in the 19th century was also a time of using/creating different styles of writing. The main focus for the authors during this time was realism. Realism was a type of style that sought out for the truth of writing (http://www.wwnorton.com/college/english/nawest/content/overview/realism.htm)

The writers of the late 19th century shows of how many of them were influenced by the major "renaissances" in their areas. This shows how much these renaissances influenced in the many performing arts that people worked in (http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/343487/literary-criticism/51230/The-late-19th-century)
