My Recomendation

Personally, I would recommend this book to anyone who feels like they don't belong or feel held back. I loved the book particularly because of the way it was written. Maya Angelou was able to recreate events in her life into stories with emotions. The book also makes me see that the problems we deal with now are so minuscule as compared to the struggles that Dr. Maya Angelou went through. Her realness is what allows her to connect to her audience. This book is really a way to see that we can push through any situation that life throws at you. When life pushes you down, you just gotta get back up. We hear it so often, but when it happens to you, you magically forget. To me I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is a great reminder that life is what you make of it. If you want to make a change, you just have to set your mind to it. Once you find your voice, you have to use it. I think any of my friends could benefit from this book, specifically to prove that life goes on. Getting caught up in the little everyday problems can make you forget the big picture. Theres always a reason things happen and we just have to learn from those experiences.

For the new cover, I decided to stick with a caged bird. The main difference is this bird cage is in the big city. This speaks to how Angelou saw what was out there through literature, but was constantly limited by her surroundings. The only way she is able to express herself is using her voice. She sings a song of freedom, just like the caged bird.

Dr. Maya Angelou was well-known as a poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist. In this video she is reciting a poem titled I am Human. This poem highlights her ability to take her life and teach others about it. Her ability as a memoirist allows her to create poems like this one.
