And hence the words Cold, Icy and Hateful. Stale was inspired from old bread. When bread is left out to long it starts to get stale. Like Darry growing up before he was supposed to. Hard Hearted is him not being open to other ideas or opinions. Ponyboy has two brothers. Sodapop- funny, handsome, allows Ponyboy to join in, and nice to Ponyboy. Darry- stern, cold, broad, slapped Ponyboy, and made him run away. Darry acted like a dad to Soda and Pony ever since their parents died, and sometimes gets irritated at Ponyboy, but he has never slapped him before. This is why Pony ran away, he stood up for Soda against Darry, and Darry caused him to explode. I chose icy for Darry because in Ponyboy's perspective he says Darry has cold dead eyes. Darry is also very protective of his brothers. He may not show that he is caring but he shows it in different ways like being protective and wanting Ponyboy to succeed in school and go to college. Darry is also very Stern like not wanting Ponyboy to get a B and to only accepting A's, also he doesn't want any of his brothers to get in trouble or harm.
