Let's take a trip back in time to see where fractions come from!

1800 B.C. Egypt- The Ancient Egyptians used hieroglyphs (hai-ruh-glifs) to write numbers that are now called fractions.

circa 500-300 B.C. Babylonia (Iraq)- The Ancient Babylonians came up with an easier system of writing fractions that used 'zero'

12th Century A.D. North Africa-
Al-Hassar developed the symbol for fractions that we have now: the horizontal bar between the numerator and denominator

17th Century A.D. Netherlands- Fractions finally make their way to Europe
