I find this a powerful song because it really rings themes of individual freedom against a limiting society.
The song, "Can You Hear the People Sing?", from the musical Les Misérables is about the issue of limited social mobility. The message of the song is how a society can only take so much before they rise up. This issue matters to me because I feel I am living in a very influential time in my country and I feel these themes are being addressed in many in my society today.

I believe in progressive causes such as reforming income inequality and use of government programs, which tends to be a liberal view. In addition, I believe tax reform is important to me, which reflects a moderate view (my plans would probably anger conservatives and liberals). When I was younger, I was very radical in my beliefs for what the democratic party supported, which were mainly beliefs I gained from watching tv and liking President Obama. During the 2016 election, I didn't support Donald Trump, but people were being so negative towards him, it made me it made me wonder if I was only taking in one side. During hi presidency, I began seeing extreme exagerations from both sides and it made me consider carefully whether what was being said was fair and if the solutions were practical. The person that I am today, trying to balance ideologies, I would probably be a Whig and if not, at least a supporter of Henry Clay. Progressives will probably oppose it fervently citing it as not regulating corporations enough and in today's age, most democrats will probably agree. Most Republicans will likely oppose it for socialization attempts in big business, especially tea party and libertarians. The moderates might agree but I feel I would face more opposition from moderate republicans.
I came from this solution after listing to my dad about tax write-offs and how billionaires get away from taxes. From that, I realized its in vain to keep raising taxes if the rich just get away from it anyway.
