Teaching with multiple strategies ensures all student success because they can find a strategy that works for them. However, algorithms are important for students who are overwhelmed by strategies. An algorithm is almost a comfort for them.
Number sense has to be taught first and in conjunction with the other strands throughout the rest of the year.
Number sense/fractions should be taught all year long.

Changes in student achievement box are still relevant. Intermediate students are still more comfortable using the algo rhythm method first. They need encouragement to try the other strategies.
