         <description><![CDATA[<div>Madison Sipes<br>1.<strong> The Selective Service Act-</strong> required men to register with the government in order to be randomly selected for the military. <br>2. By the end of 1918, 24 million men were registered under the act. <br>3. Most of the inductees had not attended high school and about one in five was foreign-born.<br>4.<strong> Mass Production- </strong>United States had to find a way to transport men, food, and equipment over thousands of miles of ocean. <br>5. The government took over commercial and private ships and converted them for transatlantic war use. <br>6. The government exempted many shipyard workers from the draft. </div>]]></description>
