After 35 hours of traveling, we have made it!! It is very beautiful over here!! I'm ready for a nap already! New Zealand is 18 hours ahead of you all! You can think about it as 6 hours behind you, but I the next day! So, when you are getting out of school at 3:30pm on Tuesday it is 9:30am Wednesday here! Derek and his girlfriend, Kat, took us to a café where he hung out with Squirt. He ordered french fries that were delivered out of tubes! It was super cool! All six of us crammed into a van and drove 6 more hours from Christchurch, NZ to Queenstown, NZ! We had such a beautiful drive down! We stopped at Lake Tekapo & Lake Pukaki! Squirt met a new friend at Lake Tekapo! Squirt and Kuwi the Kiwi bird are going to be traveling around New Zealand for the rest of the trip! They are having so much fun together! Along the side of the road we have seen so many lupin flowers blooming! Today was a busy day! We walked all over town by the water, saw kiwi birds, and went on a luge ride! It was quite exciting! Below you can see Kuwi & Squirt hanging out by the water and on the luge ride! I learned that kiwi birds on nocturnal, so they sleep during the day and are awake at night. At the bird conservatory where we visited them we had to go into this hut that was almost completely black! It took a moment for our eyes to adjust. Some older man whacked me in the head and sat on Hannah's lap! We all laughed really hard! I found a picture on the internet, so you can see a kiwi bird! Check out the pictures! The luge course is kind of like a sled with wheels! It was super fun! I beat everyone down the hill 3 out of the 5 times!! Squirt & Kuwi had a blast!! Today we took a jetboat ride today down the river! The water was so blue! We all packed into a boat and took a tour of the area. The driver was crazy! He was swerving around all of the boulders! Out of no where he started doing 360 degree turns! Kuwi & Squirt decided to stay back! They were afraid that they would fall out! We got completely soaked! Today we took a 3 hour hike out to Bob's Cove that is on the west side of Lake Wakatipu. What a beautiful sight! Today we all piled in the car and drove 6 hours back to Derek's house! It has been a long day! We wanted to climb a mountain on the way through, but it was so cloudy that we weren't able to. Instead Derek drove us up another mountain to get a beautiful view! The wind was blowing so hard at the top that Kuwi &I Squirt had to stay in my pocket! They were blowing away when I tried to take a picture! We all got on bikes and went down some crazy trails that came out at the Pacific Ocean!! Kuwi & Squirt had fun riding along the path through the forest! When we finally made it to the shore Mrs. Gerber wanted to stick her foot in the water. Since it was so wavy her other foot for comeplely covered in water and her shoe started to float away in the water! It was super funny!! On the way back Hannah ran into a few trees! I laughed the entire time! I hope you all have a great first day back! Today we hiked along the Rakaia Gorge. We decided to travel a little because the weather was bad in Christchurch, but the rain didn't go away! We went out to dinner and then took a walk through the city of Christchurch. In 2010 there was a major earthquake that ruined lots of the buildings in Christchurch. They are still rebuilding and now there are still ruined buildings, but people have been making some beautiful graffiti work on the sides of the buildings. There is also some cool artwork, look at the plastic sheep! There is also a picture of a theater that made it through the earthquake! We woke up at 3:00am (Friday), which is 9:00 am on Thursday for you to get to the airport. We are going to be traveling back in time! We are leaving at 6:00am in Friday from New Zealand and we will arrive in Canada at 4:30pm on Friday. This may only seem like 10 hours, but with all of the time change it is actually 34 hours! I hope you all had a great week back! I hope you haven't been giving Mrs. Hargrave, Mrs. Thomas, and Mrs. Lorenz a hard time!!
