Many of the diseases which plague our world are not experienced equally in the same places. Although many places deal with a lot of the same diseases, the proportions in which they are experienced is different depending on the health disparities and lifestyles of that particular country or area. This is seen in the high number of non-communicable diseases that high to middle income countries have due to their western lifestyle, compared to the high number of communicable diseases that low income countries have due to their lack of resources.

This article discusses the growing issue of diabetes and obesity related diseases such as cardiovascular disease. This article also discusses the rates of obesity tripling within the last 20 years in developing countries which are adopting the western lifestyle. The western lifestyle, being one of decreased physical activity as well as an overconsumption of unhealthy foods, is responsible for most of these cases. An important difference in cases of diabetes is that being poor in an extremely low income country is associated with underweight and malnutrition, while being poor in a middle income country is associated with overweight and obesity.

This image clearly displays the health disparities that exist in order to have such as drastic difference in cases of malaria across the world. As you can see here, places such as Africa experience far more cases of malaria as compared to places like the United States which have no cases of the disease. This is an example of a low income country which struggles significantly more than a high income country due to their lack of resources and access to proper medicine.

This article discusses the prevalence of congenital heart disease globally and the difference of cases in places which have higher fertility rates. Although the incidence of congenital heart disease is fairly similar worldwide, places such as Nigeria which have higher fertility rates, experience a much larger burden of supporting patients with CHD as there are simply just more of them. In addition to this, countries with the highest fertility rates also tend to have the lowest incomes which further widens the disparity gap.
