Mr Magnolia is by Quentin Blake. I liked this book when I was a child because it rhymed. It is a book that made me laugh through funny texts and pictures to illustrate what is happening in the book.
The pictures are bright and descriptive and helped me to understand some of the words I did not recognise.
I now read this book to my son.
It helps children to engage through rhyming words and the illustrations.
As an adult the story is predictable but as a child I did not see that 'Mr Magnolia who has only one boot' would end up with another boot at the end. This made the ending excitable and happy, how books usually are.
This book is aimed for children who already are able to read however, the pictures tell a story to those who cannot decode the words. I feel this is an important aspect of books tailored to meet the needs of early readers.

We're going on a bear hunt is a book by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury.
This book is a classic book used in schools and early years' settings. Previous to this enquiry I did not realise it was co-written by Michael Rosen a famous child author and entertainer.
This book is very descriptive and allows for those with great imaginations to read to children to allow them to think they are going on a bear hunt. The story can capture children's imaginations that can be used in their own socio-cultural settings as well as in the school setting.
This book introduces mathematical and descriptive language to young children such as 'we're going to catch a big one'.
The illustrations in this book allows for children's imaginations to capture the print in the book to understand what is happening which is important for pre-alphabetical children.
I have used this book to enhance children's imaginations of walks in settings gardens for exploration of the outdoor environment, and whilst on school trip walks to keep the children engaged and aware of their environment (without the bears).

This book speaks about emotions such as love. It discusses mathematical language and concepts of distance and bigness. It allows for actions to imitate how big the emotions being expressed are.
The pictures are bright and draws the reader in. It uses bunny rabbits to illustrate what is happening, however, I feel that the pictures do not tell the whole story as well as other books do for pre-alphabetical readers.
This book is important for illustrating emotions.
It is part of a collection which is suitable for settings with small children, as this book can encourage the recognition of the importance of bonds and attachment through love.

I have first read this book when it was handed to me by a child aged 22 months. It is one of his favourite books to have read to him. He can be involved by naming the vehicles used in the story. It is a flap book which has different objects that he names. It also has cakes behind the flaps which we look for and then count how many. It has lots of bright coloured pictures which helps to keep the children reading it interested.
We name the colours of the objects as well as talking about the animals in the pictures.
It is part of a story sack which has an aeroplane with it, we have developed his interest in this book by making our own cakes which we have in a basket to count when we get to the cakes on the picture.
This book is suitable for very young children, with interactive reading it can help build children's cognitive development.

This book is by Alex T smith. It is a new book to me but what fun I had reading this.
It is funny, a little bit silly and has good illustrations to show what is happening in the story. It is too advanced for 0-5 to read, however, it is a good book for adults/ more knowledgeable other to read to the child.
