ASL - An ASL crossword puzzle focusing on the ASL alphabet or a word list that they can practice signing or fingerspelling words.

Multiply that number by the number of students with two eyes.

Be sure to set up your Chromebook/device to record.

Have the partner hide their list of words and then expressively sign the vocabulary words to you. Repeat their fingerspelling to check and then voice the correct name.

Swap and repeat. Submit your work in to the bell work module and assignment.

There would be a picture projected/ shared with labels (Word bank). We could use Nearpod. The objective is for students to write sentences with sentences starters. about what they See, Think, Wonder. If share. With time allows them to improve writing and language expression

Where students in small groups are tasked to work together to find different examples from a variety of multi media platforms. this will help them get comfortable with using technology in the classroom setting in a fun and interactive way!

For example: using virtual tools you student will have to interact with often in their daily activities, like finding specific buttons and task on desmos and canvas

-We also need to figure out how far along they are and what they know. I need to assess their abilities to start the class and then move from there in order to prepare our lessons.

This one time per year, students can ask me any personal question they want and I must respond (unless it's inappropriate to school). Students have 1-2 minutes to brainstorm, then rapid fire questions.

3. Continue folding the paper in halves, and as you go on, you will notice it gets smaller and harder to fold.

4. Record how many times you fold it, and count the number of squares it has created.

5. Compare it when you solve for the powers of 2.

Nearpod Open ended question: Day 2: After the expectations and norms have been covered, is there a rule or expectation that we should add?

Objective: To introduce students to each other and create a positive classroom atmosphere by sharing summer experiences.

Instructions:

1. Pair and Share: Pair up with a classmate you haven't met before or don't know well. Introduce yourselves if needed.

2. Share Summer Highlights: Each person takes turns sharing one thing they did over the summer that they're excited to share with the class. It could be a trip, a special event, a new hobby they tried, or anything memorable.

3. Active Listening: While your partner shares, actively listen and think of one question you could ask to learn more about their experience (e.g., "What was the best part of your trip?" or "How did you get into that hobby?").

4. Switch Roles: After both partners have shared, switch roles and let the other person share their summer highlight.

5. Group Share: After pairs have had a chance to share, a few volunteers (or everyone, depending on time) can share one interesting thing they learned about their partner with the whole class.

There are also a few questions that each student answers so that everyone can get to know each other better to start the school year!

This is similar to what I saw in the PLI asynchronus training for meeting PLI team members.

What do they want to learn in this class

Instructions:

1. BINGO Card Distribution:

   • Distribute a BINGO card to each student. The card should have a 5x5 grid with various prompts in each square. The prompts should be designed to encourage students to share personal information or experiences.

2. Filling Out the BINGO Card:

   • Students will circulate around the classroom and ask their classmates questions based on the prompts in each square. When a classmate fulfills a prompt, the student should write that person’s name in the corresponding square.

   • For example, if a prompt says “Has traveled to another country,” and a student finds someone who has, they should write that person’s name in that square.

3. Winning the Game:

   • The goal is to complete a row, column, or diagonal with names, creating a BINGO. Students should raise their hands and call out “BINGO” when they achieve this.

4. Sharing and Discussion:

   • Once a few students have achieved BINGO, take some time to discuss interesting facts or stories that emerged from the activity. This will help everyone learn more about their classmates and foster a sense of community.

Hello, 2nd Graders!

Today we are going to explore special letter pairs called digraphs. Digraphs are when two letters work together to make one sound. Here are some easy ways to complete the assignment if you have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP):

1. Ch: Find 3 words with the "ch" sound. You can use pictures to help you think of words.

2. Sh: Find 3 words with the "sh" sound. Use word cards or a word list if you need help.

3. Th: Find 3 words with the "th" sound. You can draw a picture to show each word if that helps.

4. Ck: Find 3 words with the "ck" sound. Look at a list of words or ask for help if you need it.

5. Ph: Find 3 words with the "ph" sound. Use a dictionary or a word list to find examples.

Helpful Tips:

• Use Pictures: Draw or use pictures to help remember words with each digraph.

• Word Lists: You can use a word list or get help from a teacher or helper.

• Break It Down: Focus on one digraph at a time to make it easier.

• Ask for Help: Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it!

Example: For "ch," you might write "chair" or "cheese."

Remember, do your best and have fun discovering these sounds!

Instructions:

1. Reflect on Personal Goals:

   • Take a few minutes to think about what you want to achieve in mathematics this year. Consider both academic goals (e.g., improving your grades, mastering specific concepts) and personal goals (e.g., developing better study habits, increasing confidence in math).

2. Write Your Goals:

   • In your notebook, write down at least three specific goals for this course. For each goal, use the SMART criteria (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound):

     • Specific: Clearly define what you want to achieve.

     • Measurable: Determine how you will measure your progress.

     • Achievable: Ensure the goal is realistic and attainable.

     • Relevant: Make sure the goal is meaningful to you.

     • Time-bound: Set a deadline or timeframe for achieving the goal.

   Example Goals:

Duration: 30-40 minutes

In your breakout room take turns sharing 2 truths and a lie about yourself. Your group members will try to guess the lie.

What is something want to learn this year in science? On a scale of 1-10 how nervous are you about this school year or class?

Show a simple, colorful picture prompt and ask students to draw something inspired by it. Instruction: Share an image via screen share or send it through the chat. Students draw using paper and crayons or a drawing app, then share their creations with the class if possible.

This is a fun game that encourages students to share unique information about themselves. Each student states two truths and one lie about themselves, and the rest of the class has to guess which one is the lie. For example, a student might say, “I have a twin, I’ve been to Hawaii, and I can play the violin.” This game is a great way for students to learn more about their classmates in an entertaining way.

I love math because, ...

5. How should disagreements be handled?

After they conclude answers to each question, all students come together and share their responses. The class then votes on the response that they liked the most for each question. These responses become the "laws" and expectations for the classroom that we refer back to during the year.

PS: I always add a few non-negotiables (respecting technology, etc...), but at least my high school students always get there themselves!

Show a series of facial expressions or emotion cards and ask students to choose one that matches how they’re feeling today. Instruction: Share the images on the screen, and have students use the chat or a reaction button to indicate which face matches their mood. Discuss their choices briefly.

Using a clock template, have students “make appointments” with four other classmates, one for 12 o’clock, one for 3 o’clock, one for 6 o’clock, and one for 9 o’clock. Partners may not be repeated. When ready to use partners, simply say “Work with your [choose one of the times] partner.”

How It Works:

• Provide Bingo cards with vocabulary words.

• Call out definitions or use words in sentences.

• Students mark their cards and shout “Bingo!” when they complete a row.

1. Prompt: Ask students to respond to two questions in the chat or on a shared document:

2. Submission: Students type their answers and submit them before leaving the virtual classroom.

After introductions post 2-3, would you rather questions in zoom chat or on the annotation board. Then have one student at a time post a would you rather question. This activity can help break the ice and get them to engage with you an the tech.
