Slovenia is a small country with a population of 2.1 million people and with 20,270 square kilometers. Slovenia borders Italy, Hungary, Austria and Croatia. The capital city of Slovenia is Ljubljana and it's famous for a big castle and a story of a dragon. The highest mountain is Triglav with 2,864 meters altitude. The currency is EURO. On 25th June 1991 Slovenia became independent country with its own laws and this day is Slovenian National Day. The famous people in Slovenia are:

-Luka Dončić(NBA player),

-Janja Garnbret( Climber Olympic champion),

-Peter Prevc(Ski jumper),

-Tim Gajser(Motocross rider),

-Tina Maze( Was a world ranking skier)…

These are all Slovenian  world ranking athletes.

Our school is named after the writer Ivan Cankar, a great Slovenian who was born in Vrhnika. It stands in a beautiful park along Tržaška road. It is attended by about 1200 students and around 100 teachers. Classes are held in four buildings. Our school is friendly and tidy. 20 years ago we became one of the largest elementary schools in Slovenia. We are an ECO school. We also have a branch school. Ivan Cankar Elementary School has a rich library, a modern computer classroom and classrooms equipped with the necessary materials.

Vrhnika is a town with about 17,000 inhabitants, and it measures about 19 square kilometers. It is located 25 minutes away from Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia.

 The river Ljubljanica flows through Vrhnika. This river is also a landmark of Vrhnika, as many Vrhnika legends are connected with it. The river originates near our school, in a place called Močilnik.

We have two primary schools in Vrhnika,: Ivana Cankarja Primary School and Anton Martin Slomšek Primary School. We go to Ivan Cankar's school. Our school was named  after  the most important Slovenian writer, Ivan Cankar.

As the writer Ivan Cankar wrote in one of his works, Vrhnika is a really  wonderful place, and we can't wait for you to see it

It is on San Vicente de Paul street, next to the Santa Bárbara health centre. When you enter, on the left you can see the largest patio in the high school, which is a basketball, football and the sports court, and we spend our recesses here. Our high school is not as big as yours , we only have about 600 students and 50 teachers. We have a lot of halls and classrooms, a gym with a lot of sportive material, like a climbing wall, and two other smaller patios. It has got a lot of decoration about our culture and it's a beautiful building. We enjoy a lot in our high school and we hope you too. We can't wait to see you guys. Our town has got over 33,000 inhabitants and it is famous for a 98 meter high bridge called ''Puente Nuevo''. Under this bridge runs the ''Guadalevín" river. We also have one of the oldest bullrings in Spain. In the old town, there is a beautiful palace too, the Moorish king's house, an 18th century palace with beautiful gardens and a water mine.
