We will work in groups and individually depending on the activity we are doing that day. Working in groups is a creative and fun way for students to engage in different kinds of activities with one another and share their ideas/observations, while working individually allows for students' to strongly focus on the problem or activity at hand without any distractions. We will be introduced to learning about basic geometric shapes and their names.

To understand shapes, we will need to understand the history of geometry. Geometry is estimates to date back to 3,000 B.C. to the ancient Egyptians. Egyptians used an earlier sense of geometry for many reasons including: constructing pyramids and astronomy. It was because of their pyramids, they later began to extend on their knowledge and create pyramids with four triangular faces and a square base. However, a turning point for understanding geometry occurred when Euclid wrote a text titled" Elements". He was essentially able formalize planar planar geometry from the first five postulates in " Elements" Another founder of the advancement of geometry was Rene Descartes who discovered coordinate geometry, which eventually lead to the the discovery of physics and calculus.
