Wish By Barbara O'Connor was a really, really good book! I love how Howard and Charlie became such good friends! I think that the relationship between them was so great! I think that how Charlies family is not together is so sad! Burtha was such a funny character! I loved all of her stories! My favorite story that she told Charlie about was the one about the mayor and his wife hanging her underwear on the antena wile driving around the town! That was super funny! I also think that at the beginging Charlies temper was really bad but once you get to the end you realize that she changed so much! Her temper got so much better! I think that it was so sweet how Howards wish was 1. That Charlie would become his friend, and 2. That she would stay! I thought that was sooooooooo sweet! I think that Howard brothers are so funny! They were crazy about Charlies sisters! I also think that Howards family taught Charlie so much! They were so sweet! I thought that it was also really cool how even when Charlie said something mean to Howard, Howard always forgave her and tried to help her! I think that Wishbone was such a good dog! I would love t have him as my dog in real life! He seems so sweet and obediant! I think that Howard just kind of got used to people bullying him, but Charlie was used to fighting and not having anyone bullying her, so I think that that would be such a good friendship in real life! Charlie could teach Howard to stand up for himsef but Howard could teach Charlie to not get overly mad! I also thought that the word ¨Pinnapple¨ was really funny! And that is what I loved about Wish By: Barbra O´Connor!

Wish by Barbra O'Connor was a thoughtful and was an amazing story. It touched me and all the people around me. I enjoyed the thought of putting Bertha in the spot of a Mom with a child who doesn't know what to do. Bertha saw how Charlie needed help and she then put all sorts of unconditional love upon Charlie. I also loved the theme of how you never have to give up hope. Just believing it can happen is all you need. I enjoyed the thought of taking a normal setting and making it come alive with making it fun and scary at the same time. I liked the thought of adding Wishbone into the line of characters because Charlie really needed a friend that was not human and could relate to her problem. Everything in the book Wish by Barbra O'Connor was a book of enthusiasm and took the thought of a realistic fiction book to the next level. I really loved how Howard took his wish and did it for Charlie. He didn't care if people judged him about his up down walk because if he changed himself on the outside, than Howard might have also changed on the inside. I would think that Wish by Barbra O'Connor was one of the best book in my TOP 10 books EVER.

Wish, By: Barbara O'Connor was an amazing book that was very well fit to be our last read aloud of the 5th grade year. The story was truly enrapturing and at every second you wanted to just continue reading and see what was going to come next. There were many quirky cool little things that I personally loved about the story. First off, it was quite amazing to see the incredible transformation that happened to Charlie. In the beginning, she was a stubborn and headstrong girl with a fiery temper. She was not willing to except the changes in her situation and she kept this hope that ended up being quite destructive that her family was going to change. And after everything and her journey with Wishbone, her whole mindset changed and she was able to except her new life that she was starting, and the fact that maybe sometimes the things that are best for you aren't always obvious. And Bertha, well Bertha was my favorite character out of any of the rest in the story. She was so quirky and funny. Often times you could hear her talking about some crazy story that happened in that small little hometown of hers. She never gave up on Charlie and always helped her through all the hard times she went through. It was so adorable to see how much love she still had for Gus after all of their years of marriage together. Howard has to come in a close second. He is such a sweet boy, and yet he is always being teased or made fun of in some way. Even after going through all of his years of life with his walk and the kids constantly bullying him, he is still able to have a positive outlook on his life, and the lives of others. He helped Charlie through her journey and never gave up on her no matter what she did to him. Howard was always able to place Charlie in front of him for example, when Charlie and him made their wished, he wished for her, not for one second did he think about himself. Oh, and then there is Jackie, she is such a great lighthearted character, she was able to help Charlie in her transformation. It was quite hilarious to see all of the Odom boys drooling and fighting over her. But to see how she was able to comfort and be with Charlie no matter the circumstances is amazing, and even though Charlie thinks she has a perfect situation it isn't really all that glamorous. In the end, I love how she found that her wish had just in fact come true but just not quite in the way that she expected. The book was amazing!

Wish by Barbara O'Conner is an amazing story about a girl that comes from a broken home and she ends up moving to a house on a cliff with a lovely couple that end up taking care of her. Charlie the main character find a dog that she can relate to and a new friend that helps her through tough times. My favorite character is Howard, he is my favorite because he is always so positive and kind, he also really cares for Charlie he is an amazing friend for example he helps her calm down when she's mad by saying "Pineapple, Pineapple, Pineapple." I really how by the end Charlie has been wanting to leave all this time through almost the whole book but then she doesn't want to go back anymore. My favorite part of the book is when by the end Howard says that his wishes are for Charlie to stay and for Charlie to be his friend. I think that Charlie's sister Jackie helped Charlie not want to leave by saying that she had it good where she was then. This book was amazing and I "wish" that she made another book.

Wish by Barbara O'Connor was an amazing book! I really enjoyed Bertha's enthusiastic character. The little stories she told were really random and funny too. I love Wishbone. I love everything about him, from his floppy ears to his chubby body. Charlie had quite amazing transformation of a person. First, she started off with a bad temper then over the book her temper started to calm down a bit. I am very sad Wish is our last read aloud for this year because Wish was such a good book. My favorite character is probably Howard, because of how understanding he is. And how he always wants to help Charlie. Even though he can be nosy sometimes he is also a good friend to have. Jackie I think played a major character in this book because she told Charlie nothings going to get better at home but, that is the truth even if the truth hurts. I also liked that Barbara O'Connor added little funny stories to Bertha. I also enjoyed that whenever Charlie got mad Howard was like "Pineapple, Pineapple,Pineapple." I think that might actually work and calm Charlie's temper. I love Wish it was the best read aloud in the history of 5th grade read alouds.

Howard was a great character. He always made Charlie say pineapple when she was getting angry. I love how Charlie thought the people in Colby were squirrel-eating hill-billys. She also thought they packed squirrel sandwiches.

Wish by: Barbara O'Connor was a great book. My favorite character was Howard. Howard is my favorite character because he is strong. When people say mean things to him he just takes it and moves on. Charlie was another great character. Charlie changed majorly from the beginning of the book to the end of the book. In the beginning of the book she thought that she had a horrible life because she had a family that was broke apart in every way. She thought that things could change and that things could get better but they didn't, they got worse. Then when she finally knew that nothing was going to get better she realized that she had a family from the start. She realized that her family had always been their. I thought the whole idea of making a wish was very interesting. At the end of every chapter Howard or Charlie would make a wish. I thought that whole idea was a great way to write the book WISH.

Wish, by Barbara O'Connor was a simple, but very meaningful story. My favorite character was Howard. No matter what happened he always is kind and caring. I know from experience that it is really hard to be kind to someone who has been unkind or mean to you in some way, but Howard is so understanding. The whole Odom family is. They are great, great friends to have. Even when Charlie called Howard a hill-billy squirrel eating kid he just let it go. He was just great. I also loved Bertha. She was funny, kind and helpful. Her stories were always ridiculous, but used at the perfectly right time. I think what I learned from this book is that you should never take what you have fro granted. Charlie looked at her life like it was terrible and awful. When Jackie came over she asked to go back to Rawley with her. But in time she realized that her life in Colby wasn't all that bad, that it was really good actually. I think we as humans think that we always have nothing. Everyone else always has more. But really we have more than we think. Charlie finally realized that Gus and Bertha are better, much better than her parents. What I thought was interesting was how such a simple story could be so meaningful. It was something that could have happened in real life, but meant so much. I loved the story.

Wish, by Barbara O'Connor was a very sweet book! I like the constant question of what is home, what is a family? It tied in so well with the book and at some sections, really made you think about your own life! Like for me, it made me think about my parents' relationship and how lucky I am to not be in a situation like Charlies'. But I do like that there was more light hearted things in the book too. A great example of this is Howard and Bertha who seemed to like Charlie through her mistakes. And the stories that Bertha always seemed to have about everything from underwear to Gus' old dog! It added so many emotions into the book that made it so relatable and fun! And with the addition of Wishbone there was no way in my mind that you couldn't love the story. Who doesn't like dogs at all? But his character did add more than him just being a dog. He was an outlet for Charlies emotions and a way for her to relate to someone. But I think my favorite character was Jackie. She made Charlie realize her life with Gus and Bertha wasn't as bad as she thinks. And of course it was funny when Howard's brother fell head over tails for her! It was such a great book especially for the end of the school year as that was when it was set, or at least mainly!

Wish was indeed very interesting. It´s sad that it is the last read aloud but 5th grade ended with a good book. I loved how Bertha would just tell random stories like the time when the Mayor carried a gun and would shoot the tires of a car if they parked at the front of the courthouse. Or, whatever you call it. Wish was one of those books that made you think. For instance, Bertha´s sister, Carla, was very active as a kid, but lazy and non-willing as an adult. Why? We may never know.

Wish, by Barbara O'Connor was an amazing book. It always questioned us what the theme of home is, it always kept changing but at the very end, it finale made it clear, I really enjoyed this! I liked how you made Charlie a dynamic character, it really made the book my enjoyable and suspenseful. She first, was wanting to go back to her "broken" family, but then realized how Gus and Bertha were great people to live with. I liked how Bertha always told random stories to lessen the pressure in the book. Like when Charlie was mad at Jackie because she was so perfect, then Bertha told the story of when her dad's car, had a flat tire, then Gus came and fixed it, and then Bertha said, I knew I would marry him. Howard was the perfect friend for Charlie. He was sort of mild and calm, while Charlie was short tempered and couldn't really control herself. Howard helped her become calmer and less short tempered, while Charlie tried her best to help him stand up to all the people bullied him. In this book, something bad happened like an argument between Charlie and Howard, then she said something like Howard being a squirrel eating hillbilly. I liked how on the first day of school for Charlie, and she wrote, I like fighting, dancing, and something else. Then she said that only one was true. It built a foundation, for Charlie's character. Even though that foundation fell down

Wish was awesome! Barbara O'Connor did an amazing job writing the book and definitely made this my favorite read aloud this year. Sometimes it was so sad with Charlie saying she was a stray like Wishbone. Of course she is not a stray, there is always someone who loves you! I love how Charlie revealed her wish in the very last sentence of the book. I thought her wish would be to move back to Raleigh, but it was to have an unbroken family. All the time she was wishing for a family and unknowingly she was a part of one all along. My favorite character was probably Bertha, since she told so many stories and just talked nonstop! I also loved how most of the time Gus just replied with a "yes" like he wasn't even listening. I also love Wishbone. His name made the concept of wishes even more important! Speaking of wishes, I wonder where the author got all of those different things to wish on. Did she make them up? Did she learn them from other people in her life just like Charlie? I guess we'll never know.

Wish, by Barbara O'Connor was an amazing book! My favorite character was Howard! He was always a sweet kid that would always come back no matter what! I loved him because his wish that he made was not about himself, instead it was about and for Charlie! I think he chose a good wish, instead of losing his up down walk because he is so smart and sweet that he knew he could have a little chance for his real wish to come true!
I think Charlie should have realized her great surroundings, Wishbone, Howard, Bertha and Gus, and so much more! Even though she didn't have her old sloppy family, she had a new and nice family where she was actually forced to go to school and made friends! Also, she was forced to not fight! This family may have more rules, but there is so much more in Colby; a family, happiness, friendships, and love!

I love how the author put so many wishes in the story! They were all so unique! One question, did you have to look up the different wishes? I loved this book!

Wish, By Barbara O'Conner was an amazing book! I loved how in the end Charlie got to stay with Bertha and Gus because the situation back in Ralghy was not very good anymore. I think Colby was the perfect place for Charlie to live because she has Howard and Wishbone and she doesn't fight much anymore unless someone makes fun of her or her friends, then she will to stick up for them. I also wonder if Charlies mom when she was little was so active why is she so lazy now? What triggered her to be lazy and do nothing? I guess we will never figure out the answer. My favorite Character in the book was Howard I think he was a very good friend to Charlie and helped her with her temper when she wanted to hit or kick someone. Howard would come up out of nowhere and whisper "Pineapple" and Charlie would try to calm herself down. Over all I think Wish was a amazing book, I think the book shows that even when your in a bad situation, something good can come out of it!

I really liked how she was talkative, however Gus, her husband, was the complete opposite. Gus was really quiet. Another reason why I like Bertha is because she always talked about Gus's stories, then she would always end with the same question, "Right, Gus?" It was funny! Another really cool feature in this book was the emotions. I really like how when Charlie explains something with sensory details because then I can know and imagine that I am there with her. In conclusion, Wish by Barbra O'Conner is an amazing book! I recommend it to everyone, rating it with 5 stars! Every time I read this book, it gets better and better!

Wish, by Barbara O'Connor was such an amazing book! I loved the theme of this book, which was home and family. This book made me smile when I figured out that Charlie got to stay in Colby with Gus and Bertha. It also made me smile when Howard told Charlie his wish was for Charlie to stay in Colby and become his friend. My favorite part of the book was when Charlie had just got home, and she saw Wishbone after he had been missing. My favorite character in the book was Howard. He was my favorite character because he helped Charlie with her anger issues, and always stuck by her side even when she was being mean. My 2nd favorite character was Wishbone, because he came back to Gus and Bertha's, even though he had run away. It made me laugh so hard when Charlie said that the kids in Co;by were hillbilly kids and ate squirrel sandwiches. Something that I wonder is why was Charlie's mom so active when Charlie was a kid and is soooooooooooo lazy now? I guess we will never know. This was a truly touching book and I would give it 5 out of 5 stars! Keep writing!

I liked Reece because she stood up for her friends when they got bullied. I also liked her attitude. My Second favorite character was Howard. I like Howard because he was a good friend and reached out and made friends with Reece which is suprising because I wouldn't think he would do that. Wish Bone was a great help for Reece. Wish Bone comforted her and helped her. Wish Bone was one way Reece could get away from her troubles.

Wish, by Barbara O'Connor, was a very good book. I made many predictions for this book. One of them was at the beginning, where I thought Charlie and Howard would be best friends. I also thought Charlie would catch Wishbone. Both of the predictions were correct. Yay! My favorite character was Howard. I liked him because he didn't care what other people thought about him and he was always doing the right thing. I am glad Charlie stayed with Gus and Bertha in Colby. I thought Wishbone would be gone forever when he ran away! But it was awesome when he was waiting at the doorstep back at the house. Charlie's Wish was very interesting. to have a family. I am very privileged to have one, when other people like Charlie in most of the book, but in the real world, don't. That is super sad. I loved the book Wish!

This book is defiantly one of my favs. It was simple, but had a true meaning. The big question was, what is a family and where can you find it? Well I think you can find family anywhere, even if there not related to you. Take the Odom's for an example. They welcomed Charlie and treated her like family. One of my favorite things about this book is the way Charlie changed. At the beginning she hated the idea of going to live with Gus and Bertha, she had a hot temper, and had a fixed mindset. At the end she realized how grateful she was to finally have someone to take care of her, Howard helped Charlie control her temper, and she was so happy and grateful for her new family. I loved Howard because no matter how many times he got teased he got back up with no care in the world. The connection between Howard and Charlie was amazing. Wishbone seemed like a really cool, awesome dog. If I got another dog I would want it to be just like Wishbone. I LOVED the concept of wishing. So many times through the book she would find different things to wish on. That was a neat idea. I learned that not everyone has a perfect family. Charlie's wish was to have her family come back together. At the end she ended up getting a real family that treated her well. In conclusion, I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this story.

Wish was an amazing book. The min character, Charlie, was very relateable and faced many problems that people in the real world face too, like having a parent in jail or having to live with an aunt or uncle. The book is about a girl named Charlie who has to live with her aunt and uncle because her father was in jail and her mother was not capable of taking care of her. Charlie was very relateable and faced many emotions that other kids in this situation would face such as anger and sadness. The story takes place in a town called Colby full of trailer parks and hillbilly's. My favorite character is Bertha, Charlie's aunt, because she would just tell random stories at random times. Wish was awesome and I hope the author good luck in future books.

A few days ago, my class finished reading Wish, by Barbara O'Connor. Wish was AWESOME! Wish was about a girl named Charlie who has to move away from her home in Raleigh, North Carolina, to live with her aunt Bertha and uncle Gus in a small town named Colby. I really liked how you could almost hear the southern accent all the characters had. My favorite character was Bertha. I think she was very kind and good to Charlie, especially since Charlie sometimes got mad, and snapped at Bertha, or was just plain rude. Bertha was also talkative, and had many good stories about her friends, and even herself! I think having readers finally find out what Charlie's wish is, or at least what she wanted at the end of the book was a good idea. I like how Charlie was always wondering throughout the entire book, "What is my home? Will my family ever be fixed?" These were deep questions, and I like how at the end they were finally resolved. Wish by Barbara O'Connor is a great book. One last thing I liked was how Charlie has all those different things to make a wish on. Barbara O'Connor did a great job writing this book, from characters, to plot, to setting, this book was amazing, heart warming, and just plain good.

I really liked the book Wish. It was funny, sad, and even joyful. One part that made it funny is when Charlie called everyone a squirrel eatn' kid. One part that made it sad was when Charlie lost Wishbone. One joyful part was when Charlie caught Wishbone.
All the characters in Wish were amazing. My favorites were Howard and Charlie. I liked Howard because was funny and wise. I liked Charlie because she liked to fight and called everyone squirrel eatn' kids.
The book was also very sad. It was sad because Charlie had to live with her aunt and didn't like it there. It was also sad because the reason she was with her aunt was because her mother was sick and here father was in jail, because of that she called her family "BROKEN".
a part of the book I really liked were Barbra's stories. They were so funny with a lot of meaning.
Anyways, in all Wish was a great book and I recommend reading it if you have all ready.

Wish, by Barbara O'Connor has been one of my favorite books. This is because I love how Wishbone and Charlie bonded so quickly and they easily had each others backs. The author did an amazing job writing a book with so much love and passion. I often ask myself, "Who am I and where do I belong?" The question races through my mind and I know one day I will find the answer. Raleigh sounds like a rough place for a little girl. Gus and Bertha would be like my grandparents and Jackie would be like my cousin. My grandparents and I make tea, bake cookies, and sometimes go swimming. My cousin and I have sleepovers, tell secrets, and one time we died each others hair. I only got a streak, not my whole hair. I am so happy we read Wish as a read aloud because if I read it to myself I would not be able to think about it in my head and read at the same time. I think it would be cool to have a sequal to Wish because it would be nice to know how Charlie felt when Scrappy got out of jail aka a correctional facility. My favorite characters was Howard because no matter how hard things got, Howard was still kind and generous to Charlie. Oh, those Odom's seem like the nicest fellows on Earth. I would love to meet the Odom's in person. It would be so cool! My neighbors are kind of like the Odom's in a way. They are kind and sweet no matter what. Wish was such an amazing book and I know I will read it again some day

Wish by Barbara O'Connor was a really good book. I liked this book because it has funny characters and good friendships. It is about a girl whose name is Charlie, who has a broken family, and has to live with her aunt and uncle, who she has never seen before. Charlie really wants to go back to her hometown, Raleigh, North Carolina. Charlie makes a new friend, and even catches her own dog, Wishbone. Her friend is called Howard, and Howard is really nerdy. At first, Charlie doesn't like Howard, but after a while, she came around to think of him as a friend. Charlie's dad is in jail, and her mom is too lazy to do anything. Charlie has a temper, and Howard helped her to keep it under control. Howard's little brother likes to write on the walls, and he has a little word that helps him to keep his cool. Charlie has a word, and it is pineapple. When ever she gets mad, she tells herself, "Pineapple, pineapple, pineapple." Sometimes this works, but most of the time, it doesn't. My favorite character is Wishbone, because, well, he is a dog, and I love dogs. Wishbone is also a lot like Charlie, because he likes to fight a lot. This was a great book, and I would give it a 10/10!

Wish was an amazing book! Charlie had a lot of contrasts and contradictions in her character. Like, one minute she was angry that everybody loved Jackie so much, the next minute she was almost crying because Jackie had to go back to Raleigh. Wishbone really lightened things up for Charlie, because she finally an amazing dog that loved her no matter what. I thought Bertha had a very interesting character, I liked her. She was considerate and sweet, but she also couldn't keep her mouth shut. I laughed out loud when Charlie talked about the hillbilly kids in Colby that eat squirrel sandwiches. Howard was a wonderful friend to Charlie. He helped Charlie deal with her temper. I loved the ending of Wish! Charlie gets to stay with Gus and Bertha for a long time! Everything worked out just like it was supposed to. I think Howard and Charlie are very different, because Charlie gets so angry over little things, and Howard lets things go. They are different, but they make very good friends. Overall, Wish was a wonderful book!

I loved all of the different wish rituals that Charlie knew. My favorite character in Wish was Wishbone. I loved Wishbone because he was hard to catch but he was really nice to Charlie. Another one of my favorite characters in Wish was Howard. I liked Howard because he always forgave Charlie for some of the mean things she did to Howard. I liked it when Howard told Charlie to say pineapple when she feels that her temper is growing very fast. I was so happy at the end for 2 reasons we finally got to know what Charlies wish was and Charlie got to stay with Gus and Bertha. Wish was such a great book.

The theme was good things can always come out of bad things. When Charlie Moved from Raleigh, she was mad and sad about going to Colby. But, she started making friends and she wanted to stay in Colby. My favorite character in the book was Wishbone. He was so cute! Bertha was a funny character. She always chated it up with everybody and hardly stopped to take a breath. I wouldn't be suprised if she went purple in the face. Gus was kind of a laid-back relaxer. He didn't talk much at all. The good hearted Odoms. They had a lot of kids! I don't know how Mrs. Odom controlled them all. Charlie met so many good friends in that book, which was part of her wish, after all, and she had a family, which was the other part of her wish. This book was great, and I give it a 7/5 star rating.

Wish by: Barbara O'Connor was an amazing book. My favorite character is Bertha because she is very kind and a nice person. I love how much Wishbone and Charlie bonded together. It was really happy when Charlie got to keep staying in Colby with Gus and Bertha. I think the meaning of this story is that home can be anywhere that there is love. This book made me think about how lucky I am not to be in a situation like Charlie's. I love all the little stories that Bertha tells to loosen up all of the pressure going around. I rate Wish by: Barbara O'Connor 5 stars because it is one of the best books I've ever read.
