Next up: a sonic portrait of Marin! I have taken advantage of the reduced traffic of the last year under quarantine to visit many remote places across Marin County to record sounds, usually leaving the microphones for two or three days at a time to get a broad sampling of the experience. Still ahead are some key aspects I would like to document: waterfalls, oceanfront, and dairies.

An attempt to distill years of listening to a place, and documenting sound experience. And to allow an audience to participate by composing their own soundscape from the elements that I have collected to tell a story of the place. Just like the chemical periodic table, rows and columns are grouped by sonic identity or source, and the various other groupings are all meaningful in various ways. Explore and discover my unusual sound narrative!

The plan for A Periodic Table of Sonic Elements: Marin is a limited edition of 12 numbered interactive sculptural objects. The artwork will be coded in javascript and installed on a touchscreen display, available in an iPad size or also a larger screen depending on collector preference. A frame will be built out of found wood to evoke the weathering of nature and to soften the perception of this as a piece of technology, but rather to make it seem like a true sculpture. It will hang on the wall, and you can choose to pair it with elegant speakers. The touchscreen will allow you to leave it to improvise by itself, or you can choose particular elements for your own unique mix each morning, and let it accompany your day. The elements will be grouped into suggested pairings and counterpoints, and will include sustained harmonies drawn from nature along with the quick wit of a chirpy bird and the roar of a wave.

Want to be first in line to have this in your home? Make an inquiry!
