Humanism education must provide for learner autonomy and in their ability to engage in deliberate action to achieve goals (Billings & Halstead, 2020).

As pictured above, the young boy on the bike has gained the ability to balance and focus on the road ahead as he takes off on his bicycle for the first time without his father's help. He feels he has the support and autonomy to take the leap of faith to achieve his goal of riding a bike without training wheels.

Reference:

Billings, D., & Halstead, J.

It is admirable to talk about respecting others, treating others with dignity and valuing differences among people in nursing and understand that all human beings are to be respected and valued (Billings & Halstead, 2020).

Pictured above is a salute to the American Flag, a show of respect from the solider and the value and weight that it carries. When someone salutes the flag, this is evidence that they respect the value it holds and the dignity that comes with serving this country.

Reference:

Billings, D., & Halstead, J.

The philosophical perspective of humanism also must help individuals achieve self-actualization by developing their full potential and be involved in making decisions that affect their lives (Billings & Halstead, 2020).

Pictured above is the progression of a seed to a plant. The philosophy of humanism could be compared to the water and sunlight that feed a plant. The plant needs the water, sunlight, and a rich foundation full of nutrients in the soil that promote potential and mature the seed into a plant.

Reference:

Billings, D., & Halstead, J.
