Sandra Cisneros' classic book "The House on Mango Street" represents the American Dream, with Esperanza as the main heroine, who faces numerous challenges such as racism, poverty, and judgment. In the beginning of the novel, a nun asks Esperanza where she lives, and she points to her house and says "There." Esperanza felt the nun's judgment as she faced her house and knew where she was living. Esperanza is also a narrative about inequalities, in which women are treated unfairly, especially if they are from a different country, culture, or race.
