I wanted to help others for as long as I can remember. My mom has discussed this going as far back as when my little sister was born and I tried to help take care of her. Once I was introduced to Psychology during undergrad, I knew mental health was the best way I could help others through their struggles.

I was homeschooled until 8th grade. I had some struggles with learning (Dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorder & Anxiety) but when I began going to school I realized my one strength was where my peers struggled the most; Algebra/Math!

I set out to pursue teaching from that point on. I knew I had a depth of understanding struggling as a student that could help me in identifying students' individual learning challenges, strengths and thought processes. I just made a change from teaching Math to Counseling as my specialty area changed

Side note: I hope to someday teach research and statistics to feel my math degree is being used : )

Interactive/Collaborative: I aim for all of my students to be involved both as learners and contributors to the classroom. We can always learn from each other especially in the field of counseling where we need to understand diversity of learning, practice and persons.

Integrative: Due to my own learning challenges, I fully recognize different resources are helpful for different learners. I do my best to incorporate as many tools and ways of looking at information as possible. I utilize online course models to be sure you have whatever you might need at your fingertips whenever and wherever you might need it. I include notes, links to videos, case studies and example assignments to name a few.

Applications: Mental health isn't just an educational discipline, it's a field of helping. This requires molding your thought process to look at different components of a person's life, development, coping strategies and more. In my classes, we focus on how what we're learning impacts people. This includes us both as individuals and clinicians, our clients and society.
