I learned that from birth we are exposing our children to spoken language. As children grow older they use sounds to blend and decode words to better understand written text. Not all children who can read understand what they have read. T. McCullock

As an educator, I have garnered a wealth of information to teach reading to my standard 6 students. They may be 12-15, but they surely need daily drills on sight words, blends, digraphs. Once they learn the sounds of letters of the alphabet and put them together; they are at a good start. In the end my goal of for my students to understand what they read and connect it to experiences and to real life. The strategies will be implemented. I liked the retelling- five finger strategy. Reading helps students not parrot words but to make sense/meaning about the text.
Brenda Sanchez
