One possible theme of the poem, "Ma," is that the bond between a mother and a child is strong. I know this because on page 29 it says, " Salmon hatch in a stream and swim out of the ocean, but they always return to the stream of their birth, " so maybe that means that no matter what, a child will always want to go back to there parents because a child can never stay their whole life without seeing their parents. It also says on page 29, "Today I said, "Bye ma," and then I got a funny feeling, " and maybe he got a funny feeling because he realized why do I need to say, "Bye ma," when I know I'm gonna see her again in life. Another thing it says on page 29 is, " Then it hit me: Ma was my first word," so maybe he had a flash back to when he was small because sometimes when your doing something that you did when you were small you, ysometimes start crying because you miss it.

The speaker feels happy about poetry because a single poem can make someones day or make your day because you are speaking good about someone that you love like one of your family members like I did when I was younger my aunt died of cancer and when I went up I started to cry and my mom came up and help finish the poem and everyone was clapping because I wasn't as good at reading because I was not in school yet and that listening to my brother payed off because I knew I would have to write a poem.

I know this because when he wrote"poetry stands" he talks about how the speaker feels if someone would cut down their forest, the speaker would bring it to the press, and let their community know how their feeling or what they want to happen. My evidence is that in his poetry his it has two examples the first one is that their forest is being cut down so the class makes a poem and takes it to the mayor and that tells them about their misdeeds which shows how it can point fingers and damage how people act.
