Freedom writers is one of my favorite films. In this scene, Mrs. Gruwell has accomplished the task that everyone, including faculty, saw as impossible. She has influenced her class to have hope. Through out his speech. her student mentions how though her hard work and determination, she managed to build a sense of trust in the classroom. Discrimination occurs everywhere around the world. There are caste systems that oppress different groups of people, based on things like religion, skin color, or socioeconomic status. The Ron Clark Story is one that I find very inspirational. This scene of the movie reminded me about chapter four of our reading. Mr. Clark does not just want respect from his students, he wants them to know that they are family. With his poster boards, he is encouraging his students to do their best. This video reminded me of the balance that exists in our ecosystem. Humanity seems to forget that before civilization, we all managed to survive in the wilderness. Similar to the wolves of Yellowstone, every species, just like every human being, is essential to its habitat or community. The same way wolves keep a balance in the ecosystem, each human being and what they have to offer, is equally important.

As I was reading chapter four of the Dreamkeepers, I kept remembering this Disney movie that was based off a true story. McFarland USA, is an inspirational film about overcoming adversity. In a town where most minorities where expected to work in the fields, end up in jail or get killed, hope arrives in the form of Coach White.  An educator who decides to get involved in his new community, an encourages his students to do better than what hey are expected to do, to continue their education.
