When I attend sociology classes, I have to turn to the other social and natural sciences to distinguish clearly from one another, and in this task I always use the contents already explored in other sciences, namely the scientific method. The students are the ones who name the various sciences, natural and social, tell what they think each one studies and then, build the steps of the scientific method.

I really liked the carbon footprint activity. Will surely be using it sooner or later. Found it easy to work through and also very interesting. I would modify parts of the questions re natural gas and oil. Furthermore in Malta lots of electricity is spent on cooling down indoors due to the summer heat. This can be used for a discussion and calculation too.

In my second class we started studying ecology. Over the years I have come to realize that if, as a science teacher, I am limited to a descriptive study of the phenomenon, the students will remember very little and, certainly, will not face conscious choices about the impact of human activity on the balance of our Planet. For this reason this year I focused on plastic consumption and its effects on ecosystems when released, but also on how the ecological footprint can change if important ecological choices are made to reduce the consumption of plastic objects. After a theoretical study through various teaching materials (book, video lessons), students in my class will be divided into two large groups of 7 to address a debate about plastic usage and consumption. There will be the Pro group and the Counter group. Each group will be provided with study materials (the study will take place in class) consisting of sitographies and two expert interviews, a technologist and an environmental biologist, Pro and Counter respectively. At the end of the debate during which there will be time for moderate discussion by the professor, students will have to determine if they can live without plastic.

I think the same about the importance of the ICT tools in the nowadays teaching. I also did the carbon footprint calculator with my students in grade 4. after we finished, a discussion followed about activities they did which increased their footprint and things they could do as a group to change that. So, studentstook action. They calculated incandescent light bulbs in their houses and got on a program to change them. They stopped useing plastic bottles at school and started using water bottles. They even made their own reusable shopping bags so that they would stop using plastic bags. During teh process of all these they kept a diary of other people's reactions, too. It was all very interesting

Even though I am teaching in first grade this year I can adapt this activity to my little pupils. In the footprint we will paste pictures all the factors that contribute to pollution and climate change.
Then we can have another footprint with pictures of all the solutions which can help reducing and minimizing pollution.
This could be a group work. Children would have fun. Before starting this activities we could watch short videos about the effects of pollution and what causes it

I am quite inspired by the topic and was happy to find a Singapore version of the carbon-footprint calculator. I am afraid that the provided lesson plan appears rather incomplete - perhaps it is only meant to inspire us to create our own lesson. Either way, it will require quite a bit of adaptation for my lesson.

Carbon footprint is part of the sciences program in 8th grade but most of the times teachers only explain the concept and show some graphics about it. I think that adapting this activity like Mohammed did and letting the students learn and actively participate will be much more effective.

I always talk to the kids about how important it is to keep the planet clean and I start from a video on youtube titled 2050 Letter. I then see that children go home and ask their parents to respect nature, not to throw away garbage at random, to turn off the light etc.
