“SCRAPE”, that's the sound of Gregor's only humanity getting taken away from him. Gregor was once a human and suddenly gets turned into a vermin one day, during that process he slowly starts losing his humanity and his family are slowly drifting from him. In the metamorphosis, both Kafka and Kuper show the theme of isolation,but kuper shows it better by the use of an irregular layout to teach readers how a lack of communication can lead to isolation.

"He had come very close to forgetting, and it had only been the voice of his mother, unheard for so long, that had shaken him out of it" (Kafka, 21). With Gregor turning into a monstrous vermin during the events of The Metamorphosis, he faces many difficulties and challenges with his transformation and his new identity. Franz kafka uses many devices such as imagery, breaking the fourth wall, symbols and more to display the theme of humanity and consciousness with Gregor Samsa. More specifically, how the lack of human interaction can make someone lose their humanity and potentially identity.

The metamorfisis is a terrific and horrifiying story that shows an overworked trader that wakes up as a hideous vermin, the part that im analising shows Gregor's family moving out all his furniture, removing his final connection to humanity. This shows the theme of dehumanization and how removing connections to humanity can make people forget that they are human, Kuper uses graphic weight to show this and that is why I think he did better.

The Metamorphosis, written by Kafka, illustrates the thoughts of our vermin and how his condition affects him and his family. Kafka demonstrates this story using various techniques to communicate the theme of dehumanization, however Kuper does this more effectively with techniques such as Close Up and Graphic Weight to show how dehumanization can affect an individuals' past identity.

What would you do if one day you change and people that you love doesn't consider your needs? In both Kafka's and Kuper's version of Metamorphosis uses different ways to communicate. Kafka & Kuper shows the theme of isolation through narration and speech bubbles. However, Kuper demonstrates the theme of isolation better as the shapes of speech bubble indicates the emotion of the character, like Grete. Words can lead to internal isolation and self-distancing.
