Coventry City vs Bristol City match report

I have written the match report for Coventry City's official website for the game against Bristol City in the EFL Championship. In order to do this, I wrote the report on Microsoft Word as the game continued for the first 80 minutes, before moving the copy onto Coventry's CMS (Content Management System - the website publishing software).

The injury-time winner meant that I had to re-write the headline, introduction, final paragraph and other information at the bottom of the article in the very final minutes of the game in order to publish on time for the final whistle as the club require. While this added pressure, it was vital experience in good time-keeping and efficient working.

While I had already put myself in a good position to get the article out for the final whistle still, this is a learning experience to remind myself of the importance of being organised to adhere to strict deadlines. This is evidenced in how I already transferred the copy from Word ten minutes before the end of the game.

Comparison to my last match report at Oxford

This was my final match report from my time at Oxford United, before moving to Coventry, and I can see subtle developments in my writing.

For example, my experiences at Coventry so far has taught me a slightly different structure to a match report, adding to my experience of what I believe works best for when I get a role in the industry in the future having left university.

Despite my vocabulary being varied in both reports, I believe that the depth of detail into match action and other contextual details (e.g. weather conditions, crowd atmosphere, etc.) has improved since joining Coventry.

Admittedly, this might be down to the fact that at Oxford I worked on both a live Twitter feed and match report at the same time, with the report at Oxford going out roughly within an hour. Whereas at Coventry I focus solely on one thing per game, such as the Instagram updates or the match report.

Overall, I believe that I prefer in-person interviews for shorter, post-match interviews as you can catch the immediate reactions and interact with people directly, however I think for more in-depth interviews I prefer to conduct online on Zoom, which has the benefit of in-built recording software.
