A FLOATTING PIN

Materials: some water, a basin, a sheet of tissue-paper and a pin.
Procedure: Pour some water into the basin. Put carefully a little sheet of paper on its surface. Put the pin on the sheet.
Take off the sheet slowly.
What happens?
When we take off the sheet of paper the pin doesn't sink !

The pin floats on the surface even if it has more specific weight. This phenomen is called suface tension. It happens because water sticks to each surface thanks to its force of molucules and also because it holds its adhesion strictly bound together thanks to the force of choesion.
