Justine Larbalester's My Sister Rosa, is a fiction novel in which the relationships between characters play a very large role in the plot. The main character is Che Taylor, a seventeen year old boy living with his two parents and his ten-year-old sister Rosa.

Throughout the novel, Che faces many challenges concerning the relationships he has with the people around him. One of them being odd relationship with his "parentals", which he calls by their first names. " Whe are not Mom and Dad, we are Sally and David, we are people." P. 18.
When Sally and David discover more job opportunities, the don't hesitate to chase after them. This causes them to travel across the world very frequently. This constant traveling and moving around causes Che's relationships with not only his parentals, but his friends both back home in Australia, but also with his new friends in NYC.

The strangest and most notable relationship Che struggles to keep throughout the book is with his younger sister Rosa. Despite Rosa being so young, Che is fully convinced that she is a psychopath, and no matter how hard he tries, his parents don't believe him. Rosa's a liar, manipulative, extremely intelligent, and has a tendency to kill small insects and animals for fun.

An example of one of these incidents is when Rosa manipulates her friends Apinya and makes her suffocate her guinea pig.

"Why did Apinya kill her ginea pig?"

"Because I wanted to see if she would do it"

"How did you feel when she did it?"

"Good"

P.56-57

For lots of people, especially in high school, relationships with others are a big part of our lives. They almost define you. If one were to associate themselves with people who have certain interests and hobbies, that person would most likely also take part in those interests and hobbies as well, but there's more to it than just that.

More often than not, relationships with your peers in high school plays a large part in your emotional status.

For example, someone who tends to get a lot of attention and positive relationships from people at school as well as their peers at home or work, would become accustomed to simply being given all that they need and tend to be more egotistical and full of themselves. (Ex: Celebrities, the President, popular kid stereotypes, etc.)
