Don't procrastinate! Just don't do it. Procrastinating is when you intentionally put off doing something that you know you really should do. This can be a homework assignment, talking to your teacher, or getting something signed from your parents. You can procrastinate on almost anything that you don't want to do but for many teenagers this comes out the most with school work. I was just like you and when I was told to do something it made me not want to do it even more and so I would procrastinate and wait until the last minute. I still do this sometimes today but I realized it makes the work I have to accomplish so much more stressful.

Top 5 Time Wasters

There is more than one way to procrastinate and some that we may not realize we are doing. Here are some examples of how we as humans waste time and procrastinate.
1) Micro-Managing: Micro managing is when you give other s a job to
do but then you keep checking it yourself just to make sure they are doing exactly what you want. This is bad because you will waste time re checking their progress than focusing on things you need to get done.
2) Lack of Contingency Plans: Contingency Plans are back up plans in case your original plan falls apart. This is bad because it more than likely that sometimes your first plan will not work out the way it should and a second plan is necessary.
3) Failing to Delegate: Delegating is given certain jobs to other people so that you don't have to do everything yourself and everything is distributed. This bad because doing things all by yourself causes extra unneeded stress.
4) Worrying: Putting things off means that you save them until the last minute because the thought of starting it is just too much for you to handle. This bad because the more you worry about it before the more stressed you will be for putting it off until the last minute.
5) Unrealistic Time Frames: This when you try to do a 4 day long project in 3 hours. This completely unrealistic and will cause you a lot of stress. This is bad because most likely the project will be rushed and not as good as if you had given it more time to be completed.

5 Strategies To Help

There are ways to teach yourself not to procrastinate and get in the habit of tackling your tasks rather than putting them off.
1) Set the Table: This strategy is when you paint a clear picture about what you would like to accomplish and you lay out the outline for how you will achieve it. This is important because it creates a clear path as to where you should start at completing this task.
2) Leverage Special Talents: This strategy is that when you completing a task be sure to use your talents to your advantage if at all possible. This is important because it helps to make the task easier and it can be completed faster.
3) Create Large Chunks of Time For Work: This strategy is when you dedicate a certain amount of time to just do the task in front of you with no interruptions. This is important because with distractions tasks can take double the time rather than when we do not have them.
4) Plan Each Day in Advance: This strategy requires you to have a planner or to-do list so you can write down your goals each day. This is important because you can take into a count if you are on pace every single day and can correct your plan if needed.
5) Identify Key Constraints: This strategy is knowing your limitations so you can be aware of them throughout different tasks. This is important to assess and base your plan around these constraints so that you can still complete the task in a timely manor.

I am telling you this to warn you, because I want to make sure you guys don't make the same mistake that I did that almost cost me my good grades. I procrastinated a lot freshmen and sophomore year and almost went from an A student to a B student really quick. Even if I procrastinated though my parents or my teachers would have me reattempt the assignment anyway and I learned quickly that no matter what I would have to do the assignment. So I came up with a motto that really helped me throughout the rest of high school and that is since you know you are going to have to do the assignment anyway eventually no matter what you do, why not just get it done and do it now!
