Basically, what happened was that a man named Evaldas Rimasauskas nearly got away with stealing over $100 million from Facebook and Google by sending emails posing as employees from companies they've worked with, asking for money or transactions. Facebook and Google were able to recover most of the funds and he's facing 5 years in prison for this (he gets out next year). I think this is kinda funny because it reminds me of someone who mentioned sending random bills to Facebook and actually getting the money (might've been about the same person) still wonder how they found out about it though

i read the article on phishing emails on Facebook and google and how $100 million money was stolen. they give out how it's so easy for scammers to trick people on Facebook and google. my biggest takeaway is being careful on who to trust on Facebook and not open any links.

Google and Facebook lost over 100 million dollars to someone named Evaldas Rimasauskas. he posed as a company named Taiwan-based Quanta Computer which actually does bussiness for Facebook and google and sent phishing emails to the employees.Rimasauskas and his co-conspirators created fairly convincing forgery emails using fake email accounts, which looked like they were sent by employees of the actual Quanta in Taiwan. They sent phishing emails with fake invoices to employees at Facebook and Google who “regularly conducted multimillion-dollar transactions” with Quanta, and those employees responded by paying out more than $100 million to the fake company’s bank accounts.

Evaldas Rimasauskas pleaded guilty to wire fraud for orchestrating a phishing scam that tricked Facebook and Google into paying over $100 million to a fake company. Rimasauskas posed as a legitimate business and sent convincing phishing emails to employees, who unknowingly paid the fraudulent invoices. He faces potential imprisonment and has agreed to forfeit $49.7 million. This incident highlights the prevalence of email fraud targeting businesses, with losses exceeding $3 billion since 2013. I think email google and Facebook are a lot of money.
