Transport is a necessity in the 20th century and the history of transport is even more impressive. From canals in 1701 to the first airplane in 1903. Changing the transport time from months down to just a number of hours. Bicycles, made in 1861, were used for day to day travel, but that changed when the car was born in 1908. The newest mode of transport was a privelidge. Welcome to the history of transportation and the way it has improved mankind.

He had contacted his father Milton Wright advising that he hopes to make it back home for Christmas. He informed his father that he had made four powered flights with strong winds making it harder to fly. It shows the longest flight was 57 seconds but the records prove it was 59 seconds. This is showing his name misspelt on the telegram.

References:
BACM Research (1999) Access History PaperlessArchives.com http://paperlessarchives.com/wright_brothers_papers.html

The first powered airplane was created in December 1903 by Orville and Wilbur Wright. The first flight was near Kitty Hawk in North Carolina. They named their airplane 'Flyer I'. There were only 4 flights in this airplane because it got damaged by winds. This is when the Wright brothers started designing Flyer II. Airplanes were used to travel to different countries and cities, but they could only fly for Short amount of time. In 1914 there were under 1000 planes. Airplanes cost alot of money and were hard to get your hands on. By 1914 the Wright brothers had helped the military build planes so they could use them to defend our country. The impact of the airplane allowed people to travel long distances in a short time.

References:

History.com staff.

Steamboat was a vehicle that collected and delivered foods and goods up and down the river. The steamboat was created in August 1787 by Robert Fulton and John Fitchin Philadelphia America. It was very good
for transport in the Industrial Revolution. You also don't have to walk
and hand deliver things the steamboat carries it. It delivers items way quicker than anything else. This vehicle cut delivery time from 2 months
to 2 weeks on water. Robert Fulton had already built a submarine in 1801. He then started building the steamboat. He was nicknamed the "father of steam navigation" the steamboat was to be used on the Hudson River.

References:

http://invetors.about.com/library/inventors/blsteamship.htm
Bellis M.

Canals are man-made rivers deep enough to cope with barges. The person who was known for the canals was Duke of Bridgewater. He gave the job of building the canals and river to James Brindley. Canals were built in England 1761. Canals made the Duke alot of money. He owned coal mines in Lancashire and needed to transport the coal to Manchester 6 miles away. This was a good option to get the coal to places easily. Canals were used to move heavy objects up and down along way away. Long term impacts of the canals are they can charge trade routes, which makes trades quicker and more efficient. Canals demanded an economic and reliable way to transport goods in large quantities. They were able to move heavy objects to long distances.

References:

https://firstindustrialrevolution.weebly.com/transportation-revolution.html accessed March, 04, 2018
Benson,Sonia, and Jennifer York Stork Development Of The Industrial U.S Almanac.

The Laufmaschine was invented by Baron Karl van Drais in 1817. This was a two wheeler running machine. It was the basics of a bicycle that you sat on and used your feet to push along. It was later upgraded and called a Velocipede, Draisine. Upper class people would have this bicycle for pleasure.they nicknamed it a hobby horse. The bicycle was made of wood. In 1839 McMillan invented a bicycle with pedals to move it but was hard to steer. The penny farthing was a type of bicycle with a large wheel at the front and small wheel at the back. This was created in 1871. This was a very tall bike with rubber tyres and a light steel frame, so good for gripping, but was to high to get on and shaky whilst riding it. The bicycle was a great form of transportation as they were easy for you to get around. Cycling was a good form of entertainment.

References:
Silks Wunsch (als) 2017 Mobility for billions: The bicycle is 200 ! http://www.dw.com/en/mobility-for-billions-the-bicycle-is-200/a-39167944 accessed March 03,2018

This letter was written by Castilla M Weeks, PAD-3569 in Isthumus of Panama on 22 June 1906. He was bound for Faraiso camp the following day as he was starting on constructing a canal and river. Weeks was working for James Brindly for the Duke of Bridgewater. He was given the task to construct a man-made river and canal. He had never done a job like this before but it turned out very well. It took 2 years to construct and lots of hard physical work with all the digging. When this canal was made, others wanted one as it had turned out so well and made life easier for travelling with heavy objects to places. He states in the letter all the other projects he worked on throughout his life time. It seems to be like a diary of his life aimed at The Duke of Brightwater.

References: Unknown Digital Library of the Caribbean Samaap
http://dloc.com/AA00016037/00109/2j
