Santiago Ruiz, one of our readers, refers to my statement that the Spanish language only truly comes into its own upon expanding throughout the Latin American continent. Don Santiago considers this expansion an "imposition" by the conquistadors, the clergymen and later the creoles. Don Santiago concludes the following: "It never ceases to surprise me that someone with your intellectual capabilities makes statements of this nature, which are at the very least imprecise and not representative of reality. Unless there is a second intention, such as elevating the Spanish language at the expense of belittling others, this being one more example to add to the infamous Spanish imperialism, destructive and wherever it goes completely disrespectful towards the cultures and languages it comes across."
