This children’s book is a prime example of the utilization of literature and media outlets to end discrimination through youth. Many are raised under the brutal stereotypes of gender, told what they can and cannot like in order to maintain society’s image of girls and boys. Children are easily influenced by such, their parents’ set minds are exactly what leads to confusion and harassment later in life. The author uses circulatory reasoning in order to emphasize the point that no particular color or item should be designated for a specific sex, promoting an unbiased, color-blind equality for the youth to strive for. The LGBTQ+ community includes not only those whose romantic and sexual interests defy the norm, but also those with gender identities that stray from their biological sex. This portion of the community is specifically targeted and considered a danger, where they simply desire to live their lives the way they feel most comfortable. Working towards more of an open and affirming global mentality, people in this situation will feel safe, free to be themselves without restriction.

This song acts as an outstretched hand to the plethora of different people around the world, willing them to move forward united. Going on an anecdote devoted to the victims of the 2016 nightclub shooting in Orlando, the artist empowers those suffering to stand strong and those against them to put aside their differences. The lyrics proclaim that we are all human with the same blood running through our veins, one’s suffering is that of us all. How someone else chooses to live their life is not up to another, and fighting amongst ourselves over something as trivial as race, partners, or religion is getting us nowhere in terms of development. Pathos is emphasized by panning through the memorials and listings of the victims who were taken so needlessly and far too early. Those slaughtered were no different from anyone else, merely living life to their fullest.

How 'Born This Way' Was Born: An LGBT Anthem's Pedigree

This podcast delves into the history and consideration behind a revolutionary song in terms of LGBTQ+ acceptance in the mainstream. Not only is it a powerful message that has changed many lives, but it was able to penetrate society’s limitations of just a decade ago. The work is a tribute to those who have been suppressed while willing others to come forward and be themselves like nobody’s business. Appeal to authority is implemented considering Lady Gaga is a popular music artist with a large international platform. She risked her influence by blindly supporting a sensitive subject, but was received well and, by doing so, guided others in the direction of progress. Pathos was applied by the provided example of Tim Cox, a gay man who, without finding a home among the Gaga fanbase, likely would have offed himself from the unrelenting discrimination he faced. This real-world example wrenches the heart-strings of others, providing an insight into the toll of intolerance and how a single gesture can change everything.

Homosexuality

Frank O’Hara was a skilled openly gay poet who was due more credit than he received, but refused to let any obstacle keep him from living his life. His poem, “Homosexuality,” is stunning thought-provoking collaboration of indirect phrases that convey his deepest desires for society. He proclaims, “without reproach and without hope that our delicate feet will touch the earth again, let alone ‘very soon’... It’s wonderful to admire oneself with complete candor.” The author wills those of the LGBTQ+ community to be out and proud, even if that means sacrificing a sense of normalcy and acceptance. There’s only so long one can stand around and mope in the shadows, in order to truly find peaceful bliss and pride, we have to open our mouths and stand against the routine judgement. This acts as a mixture of gaining the queer audience’s trust through ethos and the pathos of tempting them with the prospect of true relief and joy. Working together and going against the system is the only way anything will change, his words applicable throughout history and various scenarios.
