Grendel would most likely enjoy the song "Betrayed" by Avenged Sevenfold, in which lead singer M. Shadows takes the persona of a young Grendel. In the song, Shadows makes reference to Grendel's youthful struggles and explains them through his eyes. Shadows and lead guitarist Synyster Gates wrote both the lyrics and guitar riffs, as the vocals and guitars take the listener on a journey through Grendel's youth, constantly making light of Grendel being "betrayed" (hence the song title) by God. It is a great journey through Grendel's youth and what Grendel viewed as betrayal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLCm5XNvVq0

I decided to post Jake Pepper's image of Punished "Venom" Snake from Metal Gear Solid V because it is the absolute perfect image for the theme of this unit. Jake is in 8th period, and could not have picked a better image. After reading his description and looking closely at the image I clearly understand why the image fits so well and why he chose it. The image displays, darkness, despair, depression, struggle, strife, and yearning all in one.

DANISH DAILY SPORTS

Thanes Fall for 11th Straight Time in Mead-Hall, Ragnar
Rallies Troops Ahead of Next Matchup

For the Danish Thanes, yet another
season has been marred in dissapointment, dissaray, and despair as Grendel and
his unstoppable Darkness once again single-handedly massacred the Thanes in
another mead-hall thrashing. For Thanes fans and players alike, 11 years is too
long. "I just don't get how this keeps happening year after year. It's
very perplexing," said Thanes head coach Hrothgar. "And I hate it for
our fans, they expect more from us, and we let them down at the mead-hall year
after year. I am just at a loss for how do defeat Grendel." As the Thane
players began picking up the remnants of their fallen teammates after another
crushing defeat, their demeanor changed after team captain Ragnar Vikingly
stepped up and scolded his teammates and stating over and over that "some
God is angry" and urging his bretheren to pick up their losses and forget
all the previous losses, and play mind games with Grendel by enciting fear in
him, instead of vice versa. Shaper wanted the Thanes to prepare for war by
being as ruthless and indimidating as possible, and using that to get under
Grendel's skin. The Thanes picked up the limbs and remnants of their teammates
and threw them in a funeral pyre, and began rebuliding their shattered home
hall. The team then lit the pyre on fire, as severed legs and arms burned,
swelled, blackened, and eventually burst. The players circled the fire like
wolves, and began singing a tune and throwing on body armour, stunning not only
their fans but Grendel himself. "Grendel was shocked."

http://www.psyartjournal.com/article/show/kardaun-beowulf_and_archetypal_evil

This article makes a very interesting and intriguing point. It connects the ideas in Beowulf to archetypal evil. The article makes constant references to other stories influenced by Beowulf. My interpretation is that this article is a reference to the evils of today. That meaning is somewhat hidden, but from my reading and knowledge current society I can easily say it links stories like Beowulf to corrupting, for example, mass shooters. into becoming murderers through the idea of archetypal evil. The article makes a very intriguing point, and has much evidence to back its claims. Also, that modern day connection can be fleshed out with a bit more research. With a bit more research, it is fairly clear that there is a connection between tales of archetypal evil inspired by Beowulf influence the evil individuals who seek terror on innocent individuals.
