The more the laws have been tweaked and revised the better they have become. Not only have they given students a better environment to learn in but they have also provided more and better tools to the students that need them. My biggest concern or the thing I would revise about your overarching understanding is that there is still much work to be done because we still have so much more than we can and should be providing to our students. Funding is not at the level it should be for every school in every district. With the revision and amendment, Section 504, IDEA, and ADA gave more resources to aid the individuals with disabilities, especially for the assistive technology. However, not all the IEP committee members are familiar with the laws very well. Due to this reason, the students could be not provided the most appropriate AT devices and services. The legislation regarding AT has certainly come a long way, but I think that implementation of these laws is falling behind. Even though IDEA '04 requires that AT be considered for every child eligible to receive special education services, many children still do not receive AT devices and services. I think that this comes in part from the lack of knowledge of teachers and other educators of everything that is actually available. I find the schools that I have gone to have had great success in funding and providing students with the basic technology/ equipment available. I know though that there are schools out there that are not so fortunate enough to see funding or have the basic necessities to organize a classroom.
