1. Atticus tells the children they can return to court after supper. Calpurnia, Jem, Scout, and Dill eat quickly and return to find the jury still out. 
2. Night falls, and the jury continues to deliberate. The jury enters. Tom was convicted guilty, and everyone in the colored balcony rises in a gesture of respect.

Chapter 22
1. Maycomb’s black population delivers an avalanche of food to the Finch household. Miss Stephanie Crawford is gossiping with Mr. Avery and Miss Maudie, and she tries to question Jem and Scout about the trial. 
2. Jem complains that his illusions of Maycomb have been shattered. Miss Maudie points out that there were people who tried to help and adds that the jury’s staying out so long constitutes a sign of progress. As the children leave the house, Miss Stephanie tells them Bob Ewell accosted Atticus that morning.

Chapter 23
1.  Atticus reassures Jem and Scout that Bob Ewell's threats arent meant to be taken seriously.But Aunt Alexandria and the kids are still worried.
2. Atticus tells Jem that in court, a white man’s word always beats a black man’s, and that they were lucky to have the jury out
so long. Jem and Scout discuss the class system and other such matters.

Chapter 24
1. Aunt Alexandra invites her missionary circle to tea. Scout,
helps bring in the tea, and is invited to stay with the ladies. She listens to the group discuss how their own black servants have behaved badly ever since Tom Robinson’s trial.
2. Atticus appears and Alexandria, Scout, Calpurnia, and Miss Maudie that Tom Robinson attempted to escape and was shot seventeen times. He takes Calpurnia to tell the Robinson family of Tom’s death. 

Chapter 25
1. Scout observes that it is Jem, not she, who is becoming more and more like a girl.
2. The news occupies Maycomb’s attention and everyone agrees that it is typical for a black man to try to escape. Mr. Underwood writes a long editorial condemning Tom’s death as the murder of an
innocent man. The only other significant reaction comes when Bob Ewell is overheard saying that
