         <description><![CDATA[<div>National Celebrations:</div><ul><li><mark>INDEPENDENCE DAY </mark>- 15th August : We celebrate freedom from British Rule that went on for nearly 200 years!</li></ul><div><br></div><ul><li><mark>Republic day</mark> - 26th January - the day our Constitution came into effect. - the crux of it is in the preamble to our constitution. It says the constitution / framework is 'Of the people, By the people and for the people' - this marks us as a democratic country where we choose our leaders and goverment and abolish all kinds of hierachial governance.</li></ul><div><br></div><ul><li><mark>May day / workers day</mark> - May 1st : A national holiday meant to glorify the working society (all sorts of jobs from blue collar uptill white collared) that keep our society and country afloat.</li><li><mark>Gandhi Jayanthi</mark> - October 2nd. Celebtrated as a national holiday commemorating the birth of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi- also known as the 'father of our nation" . It was he who preached and practiced the non-violent ways to fight againt the britain empire and played a major role in gaining freedom for our country.</li></ul><div><br></div><ul><li><mark>Teacher's day</mark> - Not a national holiday but celebrates teachers nation wide for all the effort we put in. It is celebrate in memory of our late ex-president Dr. Radhakrishnan  who was a great teacher himself. It is celebrated on September 5th -his birthday.</li></ul><div><br></div><ul><li><mark>Children's day</mark>- this is celebrated on November 14 in memory of our late ex- Prime minister - Jawaharlal Nehru or chacha (meaning uncle in Hindi) Nehru- as he was fondly called by kids. He loved children and thus his birthday is celebrated as children's day.</li></ul><div><br> <br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>
