And before world war two happened 40,000 jew lived in riga and that's about 10 percent of the city’s population. They also had a very good community and a well developed network, hebrew, and yiddish schools and jewish culture life.  Also many jews were interrogated into most aspects of riga and even sat on the city council

In reprisal for partisan activities the germans seized and killed more than 100 jews from riga ghetto and executed all of jewish policemen on suspicion of participating in the resistance activities.
