The food that they eat always have the element of spicy and sweet. Such sweet treats are ladu. Ladu is a ball shaped treat which is sweet and savoury. This ball shaped treats consist of mainly flour. An example of spicy food are Bryani. Usually the basmati rice is not spicy, but the curry is spicy. They usually add alot of the curry spice to make the flavor stands up.

The celebration involves when thousands of Hindu families in the city and across Singapore transform their homes into beacons of light, exchange gifts, share feasts and perform Pooja [ prayers ] to deities such as Lakshmi, the goddess of fertility and prosperity.
