Elavenews https://padlet.com/wealthybrainbank/sblounfz3hck1wzt/wish/2262540156 This past Saturday, the Golden Cranes and Lady Birds proved their grit by finishing first place in the West of the Pecos Cross Country Meet in Monahans.

Lucas Rizo finished first overall with an impressive time of 17:30 in the three-mile run, while Kyla Rangel finished first as well with an equally impressive time of 14:14 for her two-mile race.

"It felt good to get out there and complete the last first race of my cross country career," said Rizo, who is a senior. "My ultimate goal is to finish this year with a new personal best."

Reflecting on last year and setting his sights on this year, Rizo added: "Last year we went to state, so we want to keep our minds right going into this season. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish."

Kyla echoed these sentiments.

"We ran really well for it being our first race," she said. "I think we will improve a lot this year. It's going to be fun!"

Head Cross-country coach Machele Pahl was proud of the work her runners did and looks forward to this season.

"I think the first meet went pretty well," she said. "Our expectations were certainly met. We wanted to get out there and gauge where we were at. They did very well for their first race--especially the underclassmen who really stepped up and will prove to be a great asset to the team. It's really exciting to see where we go from here!"

Next Meet: The Golden Cranes and Ladybirds will run this Saturday at the Andrews Relay at the Baseball Complex in Andrews. Running events begin at 8:30 A.M.

My name is Hector Limon. I would like to take a moment to express to you how happy and excited I am to be joining you all as the new Crane High School Principal. 

I look forward to getting the opportunity to meet and know each and every one of you throughout the year, and I know that we will have a productive, memorable and truly awesome 2022-2023 school year!

I want to let you  know that I am always here for you. My educational philosophy is to "always put kids first." That means that above and beyond anything we do here at Crane High School, our biggest and most important goal is to put you and your concerns first. We want to do everything we can to make sure that YOU succeed in all you do, both at CHS and outside of school. I believe that you are all loaded with potential, and that if you give everything you can to succeed, that you will. And it is my goal to do everything in my power to help you reach all of your academic, sports, and other school-related goals. If we work as a team, there's no end to what we can accomplish!

Remember this: Our motto this year is WIN AT EVERYTHING! This doesn't mean simply winning a football game, or a basketball game, or a volleyball match. It doesn't just mean taking home an A in Algebra or an A in Spanish. WIN AT EVERYTHING means that you do your best in everything. Because there's one thing that all winners have in common: They do their best in everything that's important to them. To them, winning isn't an accident but rather a foregone conclusion.

I want to wish you the best this school year, and I plan on making time to meet each one of you and getting to know you personally.

What do you do for fun? I love to hang out with my son, Hagun, workout, run, and read books.

What do you like most about working in education? I love to connect with students through teaching Spanish and the culture of the language.

How many siblings do you have? Two older brothers. One in Heaven, Joe Rizo, and one who coaches and teaches here, Jesse Rizo.

Do you have any pets? If so, what types of pets and what are their names? I have three dogs: Maxamus Dakota, a teacup schnauzer; Bella, who is a mix-breed rescue; two of Bella's kids, which are named Honey and Diesel.

What are your "trapped on a desert island" books or movies? Anything Coleen Hoover. She was my summer obsession. James Patterson writes a good thriller. I don't read the synopsis of a book, I like to be surprised. My movies are Braveheart, What Dreams May Come, Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, and Muriel's Wedding.

If you won the lottery and decided to give up working in education, what would you do instead? Philanthropy. I would love to travel and dedicate my time and resources to help families in need.

What inspires you? My son inspires me. I want to set an example of how—no matter the circumstances—that you he still work hard and not let anything bring him down.
