In the story, Odysseus and the suitors are in a competition to win Penelope's heart. In the story, it says "By one loud crack for a sign, then Odysseus shot an arrow at him". This shows the conflict in the story by how clearly Odysseus is competitive with someone and he shot at him with an arrow, so there has to be something wrong for him to do that.

Characterization
When pulling the bow back Odysseus focused taking his time. Getting everything perfectly at the perfect time." And Odysseus took his time, turning the bow, tapping it, every inch." This show how patient and skill full he is a character. Odysseus has interesting word choice, Which is Diction that homers use numerous times in the episode.

Diction
Describing how he's getting ready to shoot the bow.
An example of diction used in this story is when it used the word "grooved". This shows the way the characters in this story act and present themselves. When you think of something that is grooving you think that it is comfortable and smooth. This shows that the characters were confident and comfortable when they acted.

Figurative Language and Imagery

In the Challenge the figurative being used is onomatopoeia "Belted his sword on. Clapped hand to his spear, and with a clink and glitter of keen bronze." Onomatopoeia is important because it's describing the actions and the sounds of the items being hit.

The Challenge would fit into phase "The Adventure". Odysseus is trying to win Peneolpe's Heart after He returned from War. He told her to find a new Husband if he wasn't back in ten years. When he returned he realized she did what he said so he is trying to win his wife back. In the story, it says "So effortlessly Odysseus in one motion strung the Bow. Then slid his right hand down the Lord and plucked it. So the taut gut vibrating hummed and sang a swallows note". In this part of the story, Odysseus is playing an instrument to try impress and get his wife back. This fits very well with the phrase " The Adventure". It shows the start of the Journey to get his wife back with him again.

Cultural Relevance

This matters today because it shows how much he loves his wife that he would fight against other suitors for her. It can apply to today's life because there are a lot of men now that will mistreat women and this shows real love coming from Odysseus. This has relevance for Modern day heroes by showing that it is good to fight for what you do love and giving yourself to get it. I feel that there are still Modern Day people who would do this but not enough. Modern-day heroes that reflect these characteristics are Fathers which is a good example. I know with a Father it would be a little different with the circumstances of who he would be fighting for but thinking a Father would compete or fight, for his daughter if someone was trying to take her the same way Odysseus did for Penelope. Both swills show real love.
