In line 155 he brags about his deeds. “He says he swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean. He also says he drove five giants into chains, and he announces himself fighting the dragon”. This shows that he is not humble and is very conceited. Beowulf thinks he can defeat any creature, he is not humble and only fights to uphold his reputation.
