There’s so many things to learn from plants: as food, medicine, creators of oxygen and atmosphere, shelter, and their beauty, and sacred nature.

Plants can help reshape our experience of school. Having more plants growing inside and outside of our schools is an easy way to begin. Short of bringing kids to places where plants are flourishing, bringing collected medicines to school and sharing their teachings is another small way forward.

I see plants connecting us on a living level that helps us to see our connections to each other. We all need to have food to eat, and many cultures use the same or similar plants to produce their food. I think it’s important now more than ever that we look to have plants help us learn how to see what is common between us, rather than focussing on differences. Plants can help us grow our connections to each other, ourselves, and the land on which we are all living together.
