To school I would take the bus at the bus stop in close proximity to my house to get to school. It is a one-way bus and I would have to wait for around 15 minutes to reach my destination. On days which I have awoken late or due to sudden circumstances as a last option I would call Grab - a car service which you call for a car to bring you to your destination for a price. This is not a sustainable option as prices may become exorbitant during peak hours, charging a lucrative price. On the way back from school to home I would take the bus again after taking the train to the bus stop. After arriving at my destination I would have to walk for 5 minutes to finally arrive at my house. On long school days I would call Grab if I am too tired to take the public transport


    b) I think that these videos are very embarrassing for the target person in the video, especially if it is a shameful act. However such intents of these videos exist on a spectrum and can be trivial or very embarrassing based on the actions of the targets in the video. For example, there are many videos circulating online like people shouting at one another or in today's context - during the Covid-19 pandemic - people not wearing masks. Conversely there are also videos or people fighting or doing inappropriate actions. The intent of the publisher of these videos can vary greatly, from wanting to share it as a joke, to unwittingly causing shame to the people in the video. However more often than not these videos become viral and many malicious comments are posted about them, causing emotional damage to the people of these videos. Therefore my evaluation of these videos is that they are unnecessary and only serve to shame with malicious intent and like a plague, spreads rapidly, causing the target people to become notorious for their behaviour or actions. 
    We should conduct ourselves with propriety and etiquette when using public spaces and domains.     a) I usually commute to school by car. My father drives me to school.It is actually quite convenient as the car is able to access many places.Travelling is also quite fast because i do need to wait because for bus i would need to wait for a certain bus to go to school.Whereas, the car is a private vehicle so i do not need to worry about missing bus and can take my time to go to school, as long as i reached in time. 
    Sometimes, when im in a rush i have to pack and organise my stuff in my bag at the elventh hour , therefore since the space in the car is all to myself, i can freely sort out my things without any judgemental thoughts from the public. 

     Those people should be shamed 
    They usually act very impetuous without thinking of the consequences, some are students and it could jeopardize the reputation of the school  . Those ignorant people will only do it for their gratification so I believe that those videos should be spread around to raise awareness to the public, and also to remind them. Instead we should not condone this ugly behaviour and act responsibly by being considerate of our actions and how it would affect the surrounding people. For example, in the public library we should keep quiet and not create a ruckus because people are going to be disturbed by the loud noise.

We should be respectful to others, since it is a public space many people would prefer a nice and quiet environment especially after a long day of work being too noisy can interrupt the peace. As long as nothing is being disturbed i feel that anything goes, just make sure not to be too rowdy and everything should be fine.There was one time on my way home after a long day of school, i managed to get a seat to sit down on a rare occurrence due to how it is always crowded whenever i went home. Seizing the opportunity i sat down and rested my eyes. However when the train reached the next stop i was met with a stampede of rowdy noisy boys from another school which disrupted my rest. Everyday i would walk to school with my brother who just goes to the affiliated primary school. We would leave the house at 7am and walk our way to school. We would always try to leave home earlier to avoid heavy traffic on our way there. It is quick and efficient for me to live near my school as i do not have to wake up very early to get ready. Walking to school is also a very good form exercise. When school ends, i would usually go to malls nearby to grab lunch using the MRT which is quick and efficient. Then, i would walk back home to burn some calories

    b) I think that these ugly videos should not have been published in the first place. Yes, people are behaving badly in public, but one should not immediately start recording it but to actually approach the person. This is to protect their dignity and reputation. Moreover, we have to be careful about the things we do or say in public. Acting rashly and rowdy in public may provoke and/or disturb other people. We are sharing this public spaces hence we need to be more considerate. There may also be children around watching the rash behaviour done by these ignorant people and may be easily influenced by it. Once i reach there at around 6.55am, i would wait for my friends and we would take the bus 100 and travel 5 bus stops. Then, i would reach the bus stop outside aljuined mrt station and i have to walk for less than a min to reach the back gate of my school.
    When im going back home, i have to cross the overhead bridge and take the bus 100 to reach outside the new gate of my place, however, i can also take bus 62,80 to reach the bus stop which is located near one of our gate but i rarely go 62 or 80 as i travel with my friends who live near the new gate.
    once i reach the gate, i would have to walk for merely 3-4 minutes and i can reach home sweet home.

    I feel that although these videos spread awareness, they are usually focused on pointing out and identifying the perpetrator instead of telling others not to behave in such a way. An example is a woman who posted a video of a driver and a passenger having an unpleasant conversation. The driver was being accused by the passenger, who started to say unkind words. The woman had posted the video for awareness, but the viewers left comments about hunting down the rude passenger. 
    There was also another video of a couple being rude to the elderly at a hawker centre. A few people decided to find out who the couple were and claimed it was a woman working at a bank. However, that woman was not the one in the video and her boyfriend had been overseas during that incident too. Despite this, people continued to write emails to demand that the bank fire her.
    I feel that we should be courteous and respectful in public as being rude and considerate not only provides you an opportunity of becoming infamous but also hurts the feelings of others. We have to take the first step ourselves to form a friendly and caring community.     Personally i feel that travelling by car is less efficient than mrt. As though cars bring more comfort in travels example the big cushion seats and abundant amount of personal space. I think we can also learn how to practice self-control. The main reasons why these actions were done is that the person often lacks control of their emotions or judgement and does such actions.     b) These videos tend to show the negative side of our community. Most videos show adolescence misbehaving in public and being a nuisance. I find these videos embarrassing and shameful as innocent adolescents will be judged just by stepping in the trains or buses. I have had a similar experience when there was a group of boys from another school fighting over a seat or playing loud music with their speaker. My friends and I would just look away, not making any eye contact with anyone fearing that they will judge us to be as misbehaving as them. The publishers of these videos should also reflect on their actions as most of them would just post the videos for the sake of embarrassing those people. This can cause serious emotional damage to them when they become viral and there are some malicious comments about them. Therefore i feel that these videos are unnecessary and only serve to shame.     On Sunny or non rainy days, public transport would be more apt. One reason why I loathe taking the cab is because of its exorbitant prices on peak hours and because being congested makes the price meter soar.
    B I feel like the people that i see on the MRT acting impetuously are delusional. Especially during the pandemic, instead of adhering to the mask rules, they decide to boycott it. They take off their mask without hesitation thinking that wearing them for prolonged periods of time is a hassle. They also think that they have the authority and the right to do whatever they desire. Once, while I was in the MRT, I saw two people hurling insults at each other due to the fact that the former was not wearing a mask. The former didnt listen to the latter and acted oblivious to her surroundings and treated the latter as ' invisible '. From P6 onwards, I would had to take a bus to and fro to come to school. In secondary school however, I would have to take a 15min train ride. Usually waking up around 610am, it gives me a 30min leeway to prepare for school. I would usually leave my house around 640 to take a 10min walk to the nearest MRT station, catching the 653 train. 

    After school, I would usually hang out with my friends for a while, before taking the train home. However on days that I would meet my church mentor or mentees, it usually involves me having to travel by train to get there. 

    My view on such videos is that the figures involved are usually more inward looking or are attention seekers. They typically care about their own needs and wants, rather than focusing on what society needs as a whole. One such example would be me seeing a man from the nearby international school Nexus sitting on the floor, acting as if he owns the MRT. I can accept people sitting on the floor, but seeing him occupying too much space on a peak hour, is just unacceptable.

The bus stop is nearer to my home than the mrt station, however the bus i take to school comes much less often. This means I could be waiting at the bus stop for up to fifteen minutes. I am also not an early bird so I might be confused between the different buses and end up taking the wrong bus sometimes, and end up being late for school. Hence, I usually choose the latter and take the mrt. The station is right beside our school and above ground, so I can never miss my stop. It is also the peak period at seven in the morning, so the trains come rather frequently. I also find the ride more relaxing than those on buses as I only need to make sure I am on the correct line and going in the correct direction, compared to the rides on buses when I am fretting if I am on the right bus. Mrt trains also do not have traffic lights, making the ride smoother and faster
    b: i have seen many such 'ugly videos', such as when people are putting their bags on seats beside them, talking loudly or commenting on how none of the passengers would give their seat up to a pregnant woman or elderly individual. I believe that all of these behaviours are extremely inconsiderate, and can easily be fixed by being more self aware in our own surroundings or just having empathy towards others. We do not need to place our bags on the seat next to us. We can place it on our laps or the floor if it is too bulky or heavy. We do not need to talk loudly as the train has a rather quiet ambiance and we would not want others to accidentally eavesdrop on our conversations with the other party across the phone. It only takes me about 5 minutes from my home to the nearest train station. Without a doubt, it is extremely convenient due to the fact that there is no need to travel a long distance just to get to the train station. Besides, the train will arrive at every 4-5 minute intervals, which i feel is pretty efficient and convenient. In addition, it is no surprise that the trains are highly maintained with very few disruptions along the way. Although i often stand for the whole trip, i noticed that the vast majority of the seats are usually occupied with people either using their phones or sleeping. Indeed, with the air conditioning and affordable price in the trains, it is definitely a superb option of transport for everyone.

    (b) It is quite clear to many people of a myriad of videos circulating around Singapore through technologies. These videos that are trending are generally videos where people are causing a nuisance or being extremely inconsiderate in the public. It ranges from people arguing and cursing at each other to fighting scenes and being inappropriate. This will surely leave a deep impression on those people and increase their fame for being a "karen"(a person being extremely illogical causing unnecessary problem, thinking the world revolves around them). One of such examples is the famous and "reputable" karen who decides to not abide by the rules to wear a mask in public. She then questioned the safe distancing ambassadors, requesting for their badges.     My journey to and fro from school every day comprises of first, an hour-long journey from the north of Singapore to the east via the train which is a mode of public transportation and a 30 minute car ride back home after school. To reach school on time, I am obligated to rise just before dawn breaks, at 5.30am. After doing the necessary preparations for the day ahead, I then board a train at the train station near my home which marks the start of the hour-long journey to school. Though the train ride is a rather long one and the long travelling duration forces me to give up the precious commodity of extra sleep, I do not mind too much as it gives me the time to snap out of my groggy state before reaching school, it also minimises the risk that I would arrive to school late due to congestion that may occur due to the peak hour. Once the school day concludes, my parents would come to fetch me home in our family car.

    I personally feel like these videos are extremely humiliating for the individuals in the videos and it also have the deleterious ramification of sheding a unpleasant and unfavourable light on public transportation in Singapore. Unfortunately, more often than not these videos depict rather inconsiderate, racist, xenophobic or violent acts, I believe that such acts could be prevented if we as a society learnt to be more considerate of others within the community and to not discriminate against those who are different from us. Other videos that I have chanced upon displayed several Singaporeans refusing to comply with the safe measurement measures put in place to keep us safe or refusing to wear their masks, I believe that such acts are incredibly irresponsible and inconsiderate as it could have pernicious consequences such as causing the spread of the coronavirus. I believe that when we are in public spaces we should have the responsibility to not leave behind any litter, watch our volume and minimise conversations and to not display unwarranted violence or hostility towards others.     in the mornings my parents drive me to school, as their work place is within close proximity to the school. i do have to commute home myself as my ending timings do not match up with my parents' work schedule. i live quite a distance away from school, so the shuttle home generally takes about an hour. although my parents fetch me to school, i still think taking public transport is more reliable. there have been several instances on the way to school where we miss the green wave and end up being slowed down by the consecutive red lights at the junctions. there is also the problem of traffic progressing slowly. whereas when i take the train instead, i am not faced with such issues. in that sense, i would say that i personally prefer commuting myself as i think the train routes are more reliable.
    however, there are certainly cons to taking public transport, one of which would be the longer travel timings, as well as the need to wait on the services. on the rare occasion that i do need to come to school myself, i find that i'd need to wake up an hour earlier just so that i have enough time to prepare and make it to school in good time, getting enough sleep on such days becomes a luxury. also due to the longer travelling duration, i often find myself spent when i reach home after school. on several occasions, there are rarely any seats left on the train/bus when i'm on my commute home, and i'm made to stand for the entire 1 hour i'm travelling, that does end up being rather draining.

    in a way, these videos circulated online are publicly embarrassing these people, but i don't think it's entirely wrong. it's not the best way to go about making someone realize what they're doing is wrong, but at the same time it was one of the most effective ways to make them correct their mistakes. of course, it would be great if they stopped their bad behaviors simply by telling them they are in the wrong. unfortunately, many refuse to admit to their faults and get all defensive about it. i personally believe the best way to go about such people would be to report them to the correct authorities instead of shaming them online, but doing so does also set an example for the rest of the public.

I live very far from this school but fortunately one bus from my home directly comes to a bus stop which is in close proximity with the school. I have to wake up very early in the morning to get the earliest bus so as to reach school on time. I take the bus on a day to day basis as I feel that taking public transport is very efficient because the advanced transport system connects the whole city from one end to another. I can easily reach any destination with the help of the public buses. However sometimes I do unfortunate experiences as the buses may not be very frequent due to the low number of buses. this does cause me to reach school late on some days. One day I had just missed the bus and the waiting time for the next bus was 25 mins. This caused a delay and i reached the school late and as a result i had to face the consequences.

    b) b) I think that these videos are derogatory and wholly embarrassing for the target person in the video, especially if it is a shameful act. However such intents of these videos exist on a spectrum and can be trivial or very embarrassing based on the actions of the targets in the video. For example, there are many videos circulating online like people shouting at one another or in today's context - during the Covid-19 pandemic - people not wearing masks. Conversely there are also videos or people fighting or doing inappropriate actions. The intent of the publisher of these videos can vary greatly, from wanting to share it as a joke, to unwittingly causing shame to the people in the video. However more often than not these videos become viral and many malicious comments are posted about them, causing emotional damage to the people of these videos. Therefore my evaluation of these videos is that they are unnecessary and only serve to shame with malicious intent and like a plague, spreads rapidly, causing the target people to become notorious for their behaviour or actions. 
    We should conduct ourselves with propriety and etiquette when using public spaces and domains. In the public any behaviour that stands out would be easily highlighted and these outliers will bring attention to themselves. Attracting attention for meaningful purposes for example, bustling. goes without saying, it is not a problem. However when one adopts an indecent temperament and does impetuous actions which cause embarrassment to themselves and others would be selfish behaviour and should reform themselves. Therefore we should have, minimally a passive, but assertive behaviour in public so that we do not disrupt others and at the same time not be predisposed to bad influence

    My commute to school starts off travelling 10 minutes by foot to the train station. Afterwards, I will take the train to school which only consists of 2 stops. I am definitely appreciative for the short commuting distance which gives me the green light to secure more sleep before dawn breaks.

    Upon watching these videos, my first impression of the people would be that they are absolutely irresponsible and disrespectful. I remember chancing upon similar 'ugly videos' on social media during the circuit breaker period. I vividly remembered that a young man took off his mask to clear his phlegm in the train, which left many people fearful of catching the virus. After watching this video, I think that such unscrupulous acts in public can bring about many ramifications to innocent bystanders. Especially during this pandemic period where the virus can be transmitted through water droplets of a contacted person, such immoral behaviours can ultimately affect those who do not want to be contacted with the virus.     My commute day to day is using public transport. I enjoy taking public transport as it is extremely convenient for me. For example, the MRT station is just beside my school which makes it favourable for students like me. Furthermore, I live a few stops away from the school and the fact that I have a MRT station near my house is definitely a blessing as I can optimise my time without having to change buses or mode of transportation. Speaking of which, I can also buy myself more time to sleep and wake up at a later time to go to school, therefore I would feel less lethargic in school. Moreover, taking public transport is more affordable than taking private transport, for example Grab services. Don't get me wrong, I have no intention to say that taking public transport is for the impoverished while taking Grab services are for the upper strata of society. However, I personally believe that taking public transport is less exorbitant, especially for frugal students like me. Afterall, it is not sustainable for students to be taking private transport services everyday to commute home. Additionally, I also get to commute home with my friends as we all live around the same area. This helps us to bond better since we go home with each other everyday. I find commuting with public transport to be dependable as I can keep track of the timing of the mode of transportation like the bus or the Mrt that is  coming. I remember a while ago, I had a bad impression of public transportation as I believed it was less efficient than private vehicles thus I decided to take a private vehicle service instead of the public transport. It had cost me $15 for a trip from my school to my house. Even though I felt that it was a daylight robbery, I chose to turn a blind eye towards the cost with the excuse being that it was during peak hour. I rebutted with myself that taking a private vehicle would allow me to reach home earlier. To my dismay, it actually took a longer time as it was during peak hour and the road was jammed with cars. In comparison, I was rushing to go home the other day. Since I had learnt my lesson from the private vehicle incident, I decided to trust in public transport and it was patently much faster as I reached home much earlier than when I took the private vehicle. From then on, my impression of public transportation had changed and therefore I now take the public transport to commute around. 

    b)There are many 'ugly videos' online about people behaving badly in public. What are your views on these videos and how should we conduct ourselves in shared public spaces?

    I personally have seen many hideous videos on people behaving badly in public. For example, there are many viral videos like some members of the public being xenophobic and making insensitive, racist remarks at tourists. I distinctly remember how I felt while watching the video. I felt utterly disgusted and shocked that there was members of the public being openly racist, since Singapore was known to be racial harmonious country. It was during the outbreak of Covid19 that such racist videos have went viral and I do not think that it should be tolerated. Personally, I think we can be more gracious and polite towards one another, and always take heed to our actions. We may end up embarrassing ourselves or end up on social media platforms for the wrong decisions.  Another example I’ve seen is a viral video of a female not wearing her mask properly when it was a law to wear masks during the covid19 pandemic. Ultimately, she ended up in court and got fined for her actions. While watching the “ugly” video, I felt that she was just defying the law for attention and got annoyed but satisfied when she got her deserved punishment. I think lessons can be learnt from such videos and applied to our daily lives. For example, we can learn from the example aforementioned and not act rashly in public just for attention lest we face repercussions from the police or government. In conclusion, I believe that when we are in shared public spaces, we can be more mindful of our actions by acting rationally and always treating others with respect.

This begs the question- What are the benefits of having a good transport system? In my opinion i think that a good transport system can bring us many benefits such as allowing commuters to reach their destination on time, reduce traffic congestion and increase affordability.Hence in the next few minutes i will be sharing with you the benefits that a good transport system can bring to commuters.

    Point 1:
    allowing commuters to reach their destination on time.
    - commuters can avoid getting stuck in the traffic and being late especially during the peak hours as there are usually prioritised lanes for buses during these timings and there are trains underground so there is no traffic, thus commuters will be able to get to their destination on time.
    - There are also alternative routes in case of emergencies such as breakdowns as the trains and buses in Singapore are all connected to one another so it will be very easy to switch to mode of transport if a certain mode of transport breaks down.
    - Shorter intervals, this allows commuters who miss their buses or trains to not need to wait a long time before the next one arrives 

    Point 2:
    reduce traffic congestion
    - attract commuters to switch from a private transport to a public transport as they would not want to be stuck on the road for a long time, hence, there will be lesser vehicles on the road too.
    - reduce the number of accidents happening too as there will be lesser vehicles on the road

    Point 3:
    increase affordability
    - the prices when taking public transport is much cheaper compared to private transports
    - furthermore, people who choose to take private transport will have to pay for their petrol and the petrol fees nowadays are shockingly high especially in Singapore.

I find it more convenient to take a  bus to school rather than having my dad to fetch me to school via a car. This is because firstly, there is always a traffic jam in the morning which is during the peak hours so many people will be driving to work or to school too. Thus by taking a bus i can avoid all these traffic jams on the road as there are bus lanes that are prioritised for buses only hence i will be able to reach school on time too. Secondly, the intervals between the buses are very short. There was once when i left my home late and missed the bus, the next bus arrived around four to five minutes later and this saved me from being late for school. Though there are many benefits there are also things i dislike when taking the bus in the morning such as overcrowding. I can hardly find a seat to sit when on the bus in the morning and i hate this because in the morning i am often still very tired and sleepy so having no seats means i will not able to get extra rest.

    (B) i feel like these videos are very humiliating to those people in the videos but at the same time it shows the public how disrespect and inconsiderate these people are which also serve as a reminder to behave ourselves in the public. I once came across such videos. There two people quarrelling as one person was playing the music too loud and yet the other person was not happy about it. After watching the video my first feeling is none of them are right because firstly i feel that yes the person who was playing the music too loud was wrong however the other person should not just shout and make a big fuss. Such small matters could be solved with a simple talk but disrespectful people as such tend to make it into something big affecting the people around them too. I feel like we should learn to respect one another and try to solve the problems by confronting one another instead of going loud and thinking you are always right as the world don't revolves only around you

As it comes every few minutes, it is extremely efficient and missing the train will not result in a big deal. This lifts some pressure off my shoulders as it provides allowance for time and does not require a specific time for one to board it. Additionally, i do not need to account for traffic when riding the mrt unlike vehicles such as taxis and buses, making my commute very efficient. Moreover, the mrt is air conditioned and clean which contributes to a comfortable commute. 

    b) People behaving inappropriately in public should be condoned for their actions. The mrt is a public space where commuters take to go to their destination, and it is vital to behave ourselves in these shared areas. We should make sure to wear earphones when listening to music or simply turn off the volume when scrolling through our phones. Moreover, we should learn to obey the rules of the mrt to avoid disturbing our fellow commuters. I had once gone through the experience of commuting with a commuter being a nuisance. She was talking loudly on her phone and was oblivious to her surroundings as she did not notice the piercing stares of other commuters. A while later, a middle-aged man reprimanded her for her actions. The trip to school is relatively smooth apart from the occasional traffic jam. After school, i am also driven home by my parents, but on the days where they are busy, i take the train home myself. Although i dread the long walk home after leaving the train station, it can also be enjoyable once in a while.

    I think these videos really show us the lack of awareness some people can have. The way they conduct themselves and treat people in these public shared spaces is extremely distasteful. However, these videos can dissuade youngsters from following the path of these bad examples.
