Kindness is a behavior marked by ethical characteristics, a pleasant disposition, and concern and consideration for others. It is considered a virtue, and is recognized as a value in many cultures. -Wikipedia

Kindness is as special as it is spontaneous and as so, you can not make kindness out of selfishness. You can't take out a camera and record all of your acts of kindness. Those acts aren't genuine acts of kindness because they are contrived and lack authenticity and meaning. Kindness is not something that you can just magic out of thin air, kindness is something that you have to mean, not just say or do. You have to truly mean it.

With this assignment, it promotes kindness as being when someone just says something for their own benefit, they are completing a daily task. That's not true kindness, kindness is being a decent person, kindness is supporting a family member under stress. Kindness is doing something nice for someone with no reward in mind. It isn't complimenting someone and then asking them to sign a witness statement immediately after. Kindness has to be authentic, genuine and natural.

Last year, at a different school, everyone did a kindness challenge. It was similar to this activity. Teachers included. What happened? Everyone completed the project, but a month or so later most had reverted back to who they were before. It takes more than a month to break a bad habit, and more than a month to make good ones.

I appreciate others may have to work on their kindness, I do understand why kindness has been picked as a project, it is a virtue and one that is really important for everyone to know, especially since it is so easy to be unkind these days and get away with is thanks to social media. Donald Trump is an example of an unkind person in social media, he promotes himself by grinding away at others' self esteem. Kids see this behavior and normalize it.

Kindness just comes to me, and it should for others. I can't make a flashy video showing myself being "kind" in order for me to complete an assignment. That's not who I am. It should happen without any intervention. No one should experience forced kindness as it is the least true version of kindness.

I do want to complete this assignment though, to not complete it would be unkind and disrespectful. Here are some examples of my idea of kindness.

A couple of weeks ago, my mother had her appendix act up, it left her immobilized in bed and with no way to take care of the house, I decided to help by staying downstairs and taking care of our dog, Choco, I made her lunch and let her go to the bathroom. I also gave Choco lots of love all day because she was elderly and her son had died earlier last week.

Last week, I helped my father change my mother's punctured tyre. We took off the spare and replaced it with a brand new tyre. Firstly, I unscrewed the spare and then lifted up the car using an alarmingly small jack, then I screwed the new tyre on and then put the spare back in its storage space. I learnt a new skill and the action was a kind thing to do at the same time.
