1. Do you see value in addressing the 4 C's + 1 R (collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and reflection) in the classroom? Are those skills a priority in your classroom? How can you make them a priority?

SH - Yes, yes, I do!
JP- Yes. Education has changed so much in the 20 years I have been teaching and the Cs are more of a priority with every day learning than ever before.

BB - eh....some days more than others. I need to make a better effort....and I'll own that....

RR - Yes, I can definitely see the value in integrating the 4C's. I have found that the best writing pieces are a result of those skills being used in the classroom.

DL - I see the value in it, however I do not always do a good job of addressing them. But maybe I do, but just do now realize it!?!?

KH- I do see value. This is where I see a big AVID connection. This last year, AVID became my life! It was new to me and I have learned a lot. It's great to see a connection!!

2. Do you think any of the 4 C's are more valuable than the others? If so, which one(s) and why?

SH - No, I feel that they flow together. I don't think you can have one without the others.
JP- Not really more valuable than another, but I notice collaboration is more of a heavy-hitter in my classroom than the others.
BB- I really lean towards creativity and communication. The main reason is those are the two I remember every time right off the bat.

RR - I think that all of the 4 C's can have a positive impact on student learning and achievement. I do love to facilitate positive collaboration between students because many students have had negative experiences with group work.

DL- No i don't think one is better than the others, but I would say that I stress communication more in my class than the rest.

KH- They are all important in different ways. I could see how some are more relevant in some classes than others. I would hope that a student would get all of them throughout his/her school experience.

Are you okay with messy learning? Do you believe that messy learning can be meaningful?

SH - Learning is always messy!! It is a prerequisite to learning!
JP- I wasn't for many years. I am getting better when I see how engaged the kids are.

BB - as long as it cleans up in the end.

RR - I agree. I don't mind it being a little messy as long as there's still a plan (or end goal) and learning occurring.

DL - I struggle with this. I am a black and white, end goal in sight type of person and so letting my classroom and the learning in it get messy can be a struggle for me.

KH- I have tried it enough to know that it often works out. Some of the lessons I was most prepared for were a flop. On the other hand, some of the lessons I was more nervous about (because I couldn't not fully plan every twist and turn) turned out great. I've learned to let go of control a little bit. I'm sure I could probably still do better though.
