Yes, the first three stages may signal "a problem" for a person. Identify Diffusion may cause a problem because they have no direction in life. Foreclosure may cause a problem because if people are focused or expected to go into a career or belief, they may not enjoy it. Moratorium may cause a problem because they individual cannot find the right career or belief for them so they are spending a lot of time exploring the different options.
